Unfortunately, our experience at Dire Wolf Tavern was disappointing. We walked in with no wait and were seated promptly by the host. Our server, Morgain, was friendly at first and took our drink order—I got a Corona Extra, and my boyfriend ordered a Michelob Ultra.
From the first sip, my Corona tasted off. I figured maybe it was just me since I had coffee earlier, so I drank some of the complimentary water—unfortunately, that also had a strong mineral taste and was hard to get down.
We placed our food orders, but after that, our server didn’t check on us again. When the food was dropped off, I tried my beer again, and it still tasted skunked. I had my boyfriend try it too, and he agreed. We tried to flag down our server but had no luck.
Eventually, Morgain came back with the check, and my boyfriend politely explained that the Corona didn’t taste right and asked for just mine to be removed from the bill since he had finished his. Morgain got defensive, insisting the beer couldn’t be skunked because they had just opened the case yesterday, but said they’d speak with the manager.
When they came back, they slammed the revised bill on the table and said something like, “Hope you enjoyed the free Corona on my manager,” even though I had barely taken a few sips.
To top it all off, both of us ended up with stomach issues later that day after drinking the beers and had to cut our trip short.
Really unfortunate experience—we were excited to try this place, but between the defensive service and questionable drinks, we won’t be returning
Great poke bowl and fish tacos!
Food was good and there were a lot of beer and drink options. There are able to make some modifications for dairy allergies.
Really cool place.
The portions are very generous and delicious. The fried pickles were tasty, as was the Mac and cheese. The sushi was surprisingly awesome. There's a speak easy in the basement called Hallowed Ground.
Good food
Nice food
Food was good, and the service was great. Oz was great!
Had no idea what to expect and it was the best kind of surprise on a recent evening in Salem. While the menu is not necessarily original or innovative or new, it's fine to have these kind of tried and true or familiar items when they are made to this well and are this good, which they are. Looking forward to going back and trying more things. Bonus points for the fact that the staff is friendly, welcoming, on top of it, and extremely nice. The vibe of the place is also great.
Great service and atmosphere!

street fries. ambiance. delicious drinks. do it.
the food was super mediocre. boyfriend got the shepherd’s pie and it was very dry and bland. i got the burger and it was, again, super bland. the truffle fries were mediocre at best. but the drinks were super good. maybe it wouldn’t be bad during off season. it was very expensive for what it was.
