5 Stars – Best Indian Food in the Boston Area!

We visited Passage to India in Salem for lunch and had an incredible experience. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Korma, both part of the lunch special, which made the meal very reasonably priced. Each dish came with rice and everything was delivered promptly and piping hot.

The food was absolutely delicious—flavorful, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented. The garlic naan deserves a special mention: it had generous chunks of fresh garlic and just the right amount of cilantro, creating the perfect bite. It paired beautifully with the sauces and truly elevated the whole meal.

Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The traditional Indian decor really stood out—especially the beautiful gold-toned (yet rustic) bowls and cups. A charming touch that even the kids loved!

The location in Salem is perfect, and we will absolutely be going back. This was hands-down the best Indian food I’ve had in the Greater Boston area.

Very attentive wait staff. Made me feel like royalty. Quick service and reasonable prices in spite of location in heart of tourist area. Strongly recommend. I ordered most expensive item on menu - rack of lamb but most dinners less than $20 each. Mango lassi was so delicious we each had 2 servings.

Came in out of the rain, and was instantly welcomed. The food was delicious & made me forget I was even cold.

Terrible service tonight through UberEats.
Wrong order left with me (Diane L. apologies for getting your order) and more than 1 hour delivery despite 25 minute estimate.
Threw cold order in trash. Never again.

Asked for extra spicy, and they definitely did not disappoint. Delicious!

We always love getting food from here. Great flavor, good portion sizes (and good as leftovers).

Not really any spice in the butter chicken or Tikka masala (though it may be because they assume we can't handle it 😂). But plenty of flavor without being too spicy for him (or my wimpy husband).

The only dish we've ever ordered that we didn't love is the biryani. The curries and vindaloos we've tried are all delicious. And the vindaloos are deff spicy 🤌

BRODIE

Beef Rogan Josh had literally zero flavor, watery curry, tasteless, beef was very well done and tough. Overall really really bad, worst Rogan josh I’ve ever had.

Really fantastic - everything was super fresh - not greasy at all. We shared Tandoori shrimp, meat samosas (lamb) and bread that contained ground chicken. Everything was excellent - portions were reasonable. Price very reasonable. Would come back in a second!

It was open sign outside, when we went inside the person at bar rudely said “ we are closed” when we said sign said open, he said look at time and there is no open and close sign outside. Then they all laughing.

Service is quick but food is not really Indian. It looks a truly American version with no spices and not Indian taste

Great service, but unfortunately the food is rather disappointing. The chutneys are ok, but are served without any type of bread or crackers. We ordered the large bred basket and the naan did not taste home made. It had a cardboard consistency. We also ordered the chicken jalfrezi and chicken curry. Both of these dishes tasted ok, but barely had any sauce and were rather dry. Not what I am accustomed to with Indian cuisine.
