If you are thoughtful about when you eat there and adjust your expectations accordingly, it's a wonderful experience. This is in the heart of Tourist Salem, so understand the limitations of a tourist restaurant during the busy season. They run a very well organized kitchen but waitstaff will vary depending on the season and year. The head chef is nothing short of brilliant. The menu is thoughtful and inspired for the vast majority of potential diners. The line cooks range from competent to truly talented and motivated. I have eaten here a dozen occasions and have never seen a plate served that wasn't carefully presented according to the original design. Consistency is surprising given the fact that this is a popular tourist eatery, but that's why my fellow locals also keep returning. It's a 3.5/4 restaurant with appropriate prices. The seafood is always peak freshness and chicken and steak options have always been perfect. It does get very crowded and a bit loud on weekends or most nights during the summer & October. Please plan appropriately and expect a wait during that time. A small tip at the checkin station certainly could help you acquire a better table if not shorten your wait a small amount(not official policy, of course). It's not needed though as most seats are excellent and the wait is rarely very long due to two floors of dining options. Still, if it's a special night or you are looking to impress, a tip and a kind word will go a long way. Note: The world is rapidly changing and some seem to carry pride at displaying a lack of empathy, decency, and manners in public. Please don't be rude to the staff at the restaurant even if you aren't having an ideal experience. Instead, try politely discussing your issues with a staff member away from the table. If you are kind and express understanding, they will return the same and work to find a solution with you. This is about all restaurants and most businesses in general. I am just leaving this here as a good number of reviews seem to not understand that all of the employees are truly striving to give you a great experience. Some issues are beyond their control and a decent human being will understand that difference.

The oysters were really fresh and good, they were priced relatively well like $45 per dozen. The fried pickle was fine, but the drinks were really not that good. I got a passionfruit margarita which was really sour and then the red sangria was very diluted. It didn't seem like they mixed very much alcohol and juice well unfortunately.

I spend a lot of time at Sea Level and have all the dirt. They have excellent cocktails and wine selections and I rarely have a dish I don't like. This is one place where the salads are a real dish to be had instead of a healthy alternative. My other go tos are the street corn dip (seasonal), cool ranch chicken tacos, and any burger (they're all excellent). I will caution that the pasta dishes are hit or miss in my opinion. I come here by myself a lot and all the bartenders are very good at keeping me company and keeping the drinks coming. I work on my computer at the bar and enjoy the live music on Sundays or beautiful views of the oceans while I write. I highly recommend Sea Level!

Really enjoyed the food. Service was struggling a bit last Friday night but-Grace. Two co- workers and I spent a much deserved night out. And inevitably the drinks were good and the food tasted good. The side vegetables were the scallops could be more inspiring.

This was a solid seafood spot and glad we got to try it during our first visit to Salem. My husband and I tried another well-known restaurant and it was a big disappointment, so we went here twice during our 4 day trip. Definitely get the oysters of the day, the baked oysters, and the lobster roll. Skip the baked fish b/c it was just smothered with a TON of bread crumbs, which my husband was not a fan of. Great location and would definitely try this place again when we return to Salem!
I came in Saturday early afternoon. Only a few tables were occupied. Maybe that day I was invisible, but I was ignored for 5 minutes then left. The previous times I've been there I enjoyed the

We were hardly acknowledged while sitting at the bar, the bartender was working at one speed. Zero personally. Decided to wait on her friends that arrived well after us and another couple. We left and informed the manager at the exit, not sure if he cared about the lack of service. Went to Longboards instead. Much better experience.

This restaurant was super accommodating for us. The server with the purple hair helped us with my god son’s stroller and my service animal. Aaron, our server was attentive and friendly and made our experience enjoyable. As a regular during the summer I will definitely be back. Great staff and food!

Everything was all cool and pretty decent food/service until I looked down to see two mice eating crumbs under the table right beside me. Place seems quite infested and was quick to lose my appetite after what I saw going on. You guys should really look into a new exterminator and maybe care a little more than you do.
