Busy diner with a long counter, excellent food, and friendly staff, the ugly mugs is a killer spot for breakfast, brunch and lunch. The French toast is awesome, crab cake benedict and remoulade are fantastic, and the atmosphere is hustling and bustling, filled with the happy conversations of many diners. Lovely experience!

We truly enjoyed our food, that was the best part. The service was not good, 1 star is generous. Also, this doesn’t impact our review/rating but there’s no AC, so if that’s important to you, this place did get somewhat warm. We sat for 5+ minutes waiting for someone to come over to our table which wouldn’t have been a problem if all the servers weren’t behind the counter just chatting with each other. Food really was excellent and wasn’t a long wait to get it. Our server came once to check on us, we did not get refills on our drinks which just sat empty. When she finally brought the check (after disappearing for quite some time) we asked for it to be separate and she commented that we should’ve told her that before and was clearly very upset. How could we have told her?!? The rudeness ruined the experience.

Just a slight step above diner style. The food was tasty. The atmosphere was great! Especially the wall mural pictured in my review. I think the staff were especially great. I watched them handle a couple harder situations with ease and empathy.

Went there today.Said it be a 25 min wait was about 5 mins.Dude was like in a bad mood and sat me down plus it was he table but he gave some else he's job not sure it was because of my shirt that said I love Mexico?♀️..Waitress was not nice at all and forgot to give me coffee a second around & had to go down the sat to get so more coffee?Would I go there agsin..nah

Came during peak hours so obviously a wait (1.5hours) which is completely expected for Salem in October. Drinks were delicious and food was decent. They did split our party of 7 up into two tables completely separate from each other but also sat a party of 9 at 3 tables together as we were leaving? Bit of a bummer for us all to not be together.
Delicious food and great portions. Great atmosphere and awesome staff. Perfect.

There was one server in particular that was super rude and kept on saying huh with every question I asked. Like lady I was speaking English. I asked her for plastic cutlery and she said huh!? And I was like can I get a plastic spoon? And she was like I can give you metal in a condescending tone. The servers were weird and rude. Place looked unhygienic and food was okay.

I’m a foodie so it’s always unfortunate to give a restaurant under 5 stars, but this place deserves nothing more than 3 stars due to the bad service. The food is the only redeeming factor. It took forever for a server to come great my partner and I, and after that, no one other than food/drink runners came to our table. We needed butter for our meal and had to go out of our way a WHILE after our food was dropped to get it. Also, good luck getting a refill of drinks here because again, no one came up to check on us. The Great food is the only reason this place is getting 3/5 stars.

Funky lil restaurant with lots of character very close to downtown Salem.
Food was good. Steak and eggs were all well made. Sweet and regular potatoes were seasoned well and not over/under done. The “special” pumpkin pancakes were good, unfortunately the center was still batter.
Service was friendly and quick. We had to request a couple things (coffee, napkins, etc.) because our server didn’t bring them but it wasn’t bad.
Overall a great place to grab a quick, hearty breakfast.
Kid-friendliness: Plenty of stuff for kids and they can downsize the servings if needed.
