Chef doing unreal work in a small, cozy bistro. Espresso after dinner. Ideal

Recommended dishes: Rack of Lamb, Bread Butter and Olives, Catch of the Day

Took more than 90 mins for our food to come out. There were two other tables with customers. I am done with this restaurant.

Memorable, a perfect meal in a intimate setting like no other in the area. Even the music was just right, a superb playlist. The bottle of red wine, Tempranillo was ordered and we enjoyed it. The appetizers, one a variety of pâté and the other, the crab cakes, were shared and simply delicious. Our main courses were delicious, one a medium-rare filet mignon and the other
Statler chicken were beautifully plated and cooked to perfection. Service was impeccable, as on this slower Saturday night the owner of Gypsy Apple was our waiter. We will never forget this meal for all of the reasons above. It was not a special occasion for us, but the setting, music, food, and service made it very special. Thank you Gypsy Apple Bistro for the 20 years of fine dining near the Bridge of Flowers in the foothills of the Berkshires.

What a culinary gem - set in one of the most bucolic towns at the foothill of the Berkshires, at that. We have been going to Gypsy Apple periodically over the past few years. It is consistently EXCEPTIONAL. One of our absolute favorites. And we have since brought friends from cities coast to coast. It is now one of THEIR favorite restaurants. It rivals anything in Boston ... or New York ... or elsewhere. Michaelangelo ... what an AMAZING chef. A heck of a nice guy, too. As is everyone at the restaurant. And the restaurant itself is so charming - whether sitting inside or out. A special place, indeed. HIGHLY recommend.

Hard to give more than 3. And we would like to. As it is nice local owned and seems to put in effort. But GA just didn't live up to the hype that some friends shared of being a local favorite.
First, have to say that if you are going to offer outdoor seating - offer somewhat comfortable level seat. Wobbly uneven metal chairs leave something to be desired. Sorry. And a little love to straighten up the bamboo wall would go a long way. Also this is what we get for seating when we have a reservation? Just kind of uhg.
Second the best part of dinner was the bread. Warm and tasty with tapenade etc. I love a good caesar but this was just too salty and too much dressing.
Entree of Striped Bass and risotto was unfortunately uninspiring. Unless you dipped fish in hollandaise type sauce you really got no flavor...and the hollandaise was nothing special. The risotto was fine. Unfortunately the portion was undersized.
Service was fine, not great. Polite but not exactly upbeat or warm. They are understaffed so I will try to be fair. There was pretty big gap between salad and entree.
We are not saying we won't go again. And we aren't saying we wouldn't recommend. But hopefully this was an off night and in terms of a destination - it was a drive for us...not top of the list.

We dined on an oppressive summer's day. This small
restaurant's air conditioner was underpowered, given the ambient
temperature.
Service was helpful and pleasant.
The wine list is relatively reasonably priced, with interesting choices.
We had a very good non-Champagne bubbly from the Loire Valley.
Bread and flavored butter very good.
Shared a wedge salad, which was excellent, 'tho I didn't think salty bacon and ? slivers of fried onion matched the dish.
Main courses (large) were thick tuna steak and duck breast, accompanied by good vegetables. Both were ordered rare, and we probably should have sent the duck back for a serious sear.
We'd love to come back, in spite of our less-than-perfect experience....

A second visit; my wife and I enjoyed a memorable Valentine's dinner there in 2023. It's a cozy little place, with the ambience of a cherished French bistro. And a good experience last night, but three stars because I want Gypsy Apple to improve. $45 for mains asks for something special; it's the most restos ask in our area. A solid outing: food was professionally prepared and delicious. Filet mignon/ red wine and mushroom reduction, with asparagus and mashed potatoes x 2; seared salmon with lobster mashed potatoes; rack of lamb/ mint sauce and potato chimichurri. Local sautéed morel and lobsterhead mushrooms and crab cakes for apps. Vermouth/ sherry cocktails and glasses of Italian and Spanish red and white for dinner. We declined dessert, because after ordering the crème brulée were informed that the refrigerator broke down. Meats were all expertly cooked: a nice medium on the steaks, and a nice rare on the lamb, with good searing on both without affecting the juiciness within. Vegetables were the right texture and color, fresh green yet cooked just right. A good crabcake, and tasty mushrooms. Server was engaging and professional, removing bread crumbs before the mains arrived. A few constructive criticisms: - The room was empty when we arrived at 6 sharp, even though it soon filled up. But it took 1 hour for the appetizers to arrive, and another hour for dinner. 2 hours pass before your guests get to enjoy your wonderful food? Our dining companions, who were recognized and greeted warmly by our server as semi-regulars, said that you are getting this reputation. So three hours for a dinner of 3-4 courses was not an off-your-game evening. No free glass of wine to apologize for your delay? - The music, while not technically loud, was brash and intrusive. '90s hip-hop and random alt rock at a classy place, with many of your guests over the age of 60? I still have some Biggie lyrics memorized from my 20s, but an elevated experience is NOT where I want to remember college parties. You can do better; think of your guests. No music is best, but perhaps a little acoustic instrumental of any genre can work in the background, to muffle separate conversations. - The presentation of the food was uninspiring, and most of the accompagnements were mundane. For $100 per person for everything (drinks apps mains tax tip), you can do better than simply steaming/ sautéeing asparagus stalks. And they were not even broken in the middle - the spear is the best part, not the stalk. - Your mashed potatoes were a lost opportunity. Nothing outside of simply boiling one kind of potato with some butter and some salt? You can and should strive to inspire. Meat and potatoes can be elevated; use your creativity. Yes, for one of the plates, you used lobster mashed potatoes: bravo! But for the others, why not, for instance, some hazelnut oil? Or perhaps, a special kind of heirloom potato, or combination thereof? It can still be an effective template for the meat, without being intrusive. Also, please do not serve good bread and allow some of it to be frozen in the middle. We will be back, Gypsy Apple, because we support you, but please improve to the level of which you are capable.

Our favorite restaurant in Shelburne! We have not had a bad meal here. The wine pairing dinners are amazing. The duck is out of this word. Cannot recommend this enough.Michaelangelo is always creating new and interesting dishes. A very nice and intimate dining experience. ?
