Super friendly, very helpful staff that seems to be having a good time and happy to be here with each other, groovy lo-fi on the solid overhead speakers, and suuuuuuuuch great food including a TON of gluten-free options and modifications. The home fries were some of the best I've ever had, the corner beef hash was delicious, and they even have home made blueberry muffins. What!?
Landed after no sleep on an overnight flight and this was exactly the medicine I needed. Thank you so much, y'all!

Ate here this weekend and the food was fine but forgettable. Then I went outside and watched the manager (or owner?) scream at and berate the two guys manning the bus stop for the green line shuttle... what a complete JERK. In the future I'll be giving my money to any of the MANY places around town whose staff have some class.

Really disappointed with my visit to Ball Square today. We always order brunch to-go from here because it’s quick and they have GF options. I chose this spot specially today to kick off my birthday week. Today was a pretty bad experience. First I tried to call in to place a pick up order for 20 min, but no one ever answered. I was driving so I wasn’t able to make an order on line. The restaurant wasn’t busy when I arrived. I placed my order with one of the servers and waited about 15 min for the food. I did a quick check of my food thinking it was all correct but once I got home and inspected further, I saw the order was all wrong. I drove all the way back to the restaurant to get my order recooked and again, as I was driving, I tried to call and no one picked up. I ordered GF pancakes and GF white toast with my meal. Once I saw that I didn’t receive toast but an English muffin, I didn’t trust that it was gluten free since the server said the only GF bread was white bread. Then looking at the receipt, I saw that only the bread said GF but nowhere did it say the pancakes were gluten free so I couldn’t trust the pancakes either. I also ordered egg whites and realized once I got home that I received regular scrambled eggs. The only thing I could eat from the food I was given was the sausage and potatoes. When I arrived back at the restaurant, the server was kind, but didn’t acknowledge my request for a refund or store credit for having to come all the way to the restaurant and for the incorrect order. Another server gave me fresh orange juice for the wait, but again, customer service was out the window. It was extremely frustrating that the order was so incorrect and nothing was done (other than complimentary orange juice and syrup) to make it right. Not sure if I’ll be back here for a while as it’s not the first time my order has been incorrect. I guess I need to untie the tightly tied bag each time I come here and inspect every single thing in the restaurant or car before going home because I can’t trust the restaurant to get it right.

Sadly, service has gone so downhill that we will not be coming back. Our family has been to brunch here so often that our kids grew up with Ball Sq cafe as their go to for brunch. Price has gone up but food is still great. However, on the latest visit 2 out of 5 orders were mistaken (wrong egg style/missing sides) that we had to wait for a long time to correct. No butter on the table. No one refills our water and coffee or checks on us until we had to flag a person. Same with check out - had to wait ages and then flag someone to take the card. A server apparently was wearing gym shorts. That’s just unprofessional. We have never experienced this level of service here before.

This was incredibly easy to give a 5 star, here’s why.
We got two plates, the “Fit for a King or Queen” and a Make-your-own breakfast sandwich with grilled mashed potatoes on the side.
Here’s everything important you need to know: the bacon melts in your mouth and is absolutely delicious. The grilled mashed is a staple here, it’s buttery and addictive. They have great gluten free options including pancakes, English muffins, and toast. Everything was amazing and I’ll be back soon.
UPDATE 8/18: Ball Square Cafe does not miss. I’ve been here 3 more times since the original review, 10/10 every time. Adding one more pic which shows an alteration of the “Fit for a King or Queen” and the avocado & tomato eggs benny with bacon added to it. This is my go to brunch spot, especially when it comes to gluten free options.

I’ve been to many breakfast spots across Massachusetts, and Ball Square Café is by far the number one! The food is absolutely delicious — everything tastes fresh and perfectly prepared. The pancakes are out of this world, fluffy and full of flavor.
If I could give them more than 5 stars, I definitely would. This place has officially become my go-to spot for breakfast. Without a doubt, the best place in Somerville!

As someone new to Cambridge, I’ve been exploring nearby restaurants, and this place really stood out! Accessibility is great with the Ball Sq. Green Line station literally a minute away. I had the steak and cheese omelet and it had great flavor, also the fresh berry french toast with whipped cream was sweet and absolutely delicious. The service was excellent too. Our waiter mentioned he was new to the job, although was very friendly and attentive. Got great recommendations for things to check out around Somerville as well, overall great experience!
