Almost missed this wonderful place. Very unassuming place in downtown Somerville. The Bo Kho, or Vietnamese Beef Curry Soup, is the best beef curry soup I've had in my life! It was refreshing, had a nice spiciness that warms you up on a cold New England morning (especially when you've just flown back from the airport). The chunks of beef were so tender~~~ The drinks has a lot of body, depending on what you get. The egg coffee was thick and rich. The owners were nice and my order didn't take long. The cafe doesn't have much seating, but it's neat and peaceful. Soooo perfect for mornings.

The ube matcha is amazing (not too sweet) and the spring rolls are delicious! The drinks are crafted carefully from really nice staff. I hope this place does well. I worry that the atmosphere is a little beige which may turn people off the truly delicious drinks. Hoping enough people give this business a try and keep coming back so the owners can add some more decor and brighten up the space.

My first Vietnamese coffee house (and matcha) experience and it was really! The space is so calm, the people very kind and the menu is really good, I have enjoy grabbing breakfast there two time now! Also I left my keys once and they kept it and were so nice about it! A MUST if you are in Medford/Somervilleš·šµāļø

Every time I drive past Pound House, the place is packed!! Being the genius that I am (lol), I decided to stop by at 7am on a Sunday morning to avoid the lines! Success!
For drinks, we ordered a salted matcha latte and an egg coffee. The salted matcha latte was amazing - creamy, perfectly salted, and just sweet enough. The egg coffee isnāt normally something that would sound appealing to me, but after learning that itās a popular Vietnamese coffee drink, I thought I should try it, and I was NOT disappointed! It was super creamy, almost like an egg custard placed on top of coffee. Itās served with a spoon - itās that creamy!! Highly recommend!!!
(09/14/23 - We stopped in for iced ube matcha lattesā¦and they were soooo good! Also highly recommend these!)
The avocado toast came with two slices of bread, a layer of guacamole, slices of avocado, one hard boiled egg, and a side of mixed greens. Jacob, one of the partners, came to greet us and actually offered to bring a new egg, one that was soft boiled. And while we didnāt accept it, we thought the gesture was very sweet and kind. It was much appreciated, as it showed that they take great pride in their products and they pay attention to detail.
We also met VTec, another partner, who was super friendly and very chill. When asked about his name, he explained, āI fix cars on the weekdays and bahn mis on the weekends.ā Seriously, so cute!
Overall, a great experience and I highly recommend. Another lovely addition to Ball Square!!
