The Ebi Kakiage Hot Soba was pretty good, especially the vegetable and shrimp tempura on the side. The tempura was shaped like a bird’s nest and it was really tasty. However, the mini shrimp in it were a bit underwhelming; I wish they used larger shrimp. The broth was really good, but a bit one-note, and the soba was overcooked.

The Torch Saku and Torch Toro rolls were great, but the fish in the Torch Saku tasted like baked fish as it wasn’t properly torched. The Torch Toro was tastier and way more flavorful. For appetizers, the fried baby octopus 🐙 was really tasty!

We got some lunch specials and they were fine.
High ceilings and long and narrow layout which is comfortable with good service.

The hostess was extremely rude and called me entitled when I asked about my table. She persisted in her rude manner, saying she does not owe me anything and would not stop going at me until I told her outright that I will not engage with her anymore. I was with an old friend and felt very uncomfortable by this display in public and in front of my friend.

I have been going to sugidama for years, I regularly bring friends and groups there. This is not how a loyal customer should be treated. I now feel like I cannot go back because this interaction ruined my evening.

Comforting hot soba during a cold winter night. My broth was nice and smoky but not overpowering. The beef and tofu were tender and juicy. I also liked the steamed gyoza which was also juicy. My friend liked the braised unagi don.

Vegetarian options: There are a few vegetarian dishes but most have some kind of meat or fish.

Kid-friendliness: Not for young children

If you are looking for high quality sushi & an authentic Japanese dining experience in Davis Square, Sugidama is the place to go. I recommend to make reservation on weekend as they are usually packed.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The vibe is amazing, and the service is so nice and sweet. The lobster wrapped in seaweed is a standout dish. The cold soba is excellent; the sauce is sooo flavorful and pairs perfectly with the fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Everything here tastes incredibly fresh and delicious. Definitely will come back again.
