No food, terrible service and attention. Have gone to other locations where its simply much better.

I absolutely love coming here! The staff are super friendly, helpful, and make the whole experience fun and welcoming. The atmosphere is energetic and exciting, and I always leave feeling refreshed and energized. It not just about throwing axes but also about improving your skills and having a blast while doing it. I have even made some new friends along the way and meet cool people. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique and uplifting activity!

Had a bit of a strange experience here. Overall, I got a rude and ego-centric vibe from the management, but to be fair, their strictness seems rooted in safety concerns for the customers.

**Here’s what happened:**

I came with two friends for a last-minute visit, so I had no prior knowledge of how the place operated. Since axe throwing is done in pairs, I waited while my two friends went first. As a first-timer, I felt nervous and started watching tutorials on my phone while the coach was talking to them. The space was echoey, and I couldn’t really hear what was being explained.

When I thought it was my turn and approached the coach, he suddenly snapped, saying, “No, I’m not letting her do it—she clearly didn’t want to and wasn’t listening when I explained the safety rules.” He then turned away and refused to let me explain or even apologize. I was stunned—I hadn’t even spoken to him until then.

I went to the front desk to ask for help, and they said they’d call the general manager. While I was waiting, another coach nearby—Shelby—who was incredibly kind and skilled, started giving me tips. He was the only one who made me feel welcome. Unfortunately, the GM came over and immediately told him to stop talking to me. She then launched into a lecture about how I had broken the rules, again without hearing my side.

Even though I apologized and said I understood, she snapped, “No, you couldn’t possibly understand—I haven’t finished talking!” I stayed patient, let her finish, and asked if I could join the next session with Shelby instead. She refused, saying I had to stick with the original coach and that coach assignments are random.

At that point, I asked for a refund.

As I waited for my friends to finish, I began writing this review. That’s when the GM returned, stood behind me, and said, “Hey, are you writing us a bad review?” I said, “Just a mediocre one,” and that led to another heated exchange. She accused me of being disrespectful and inattentive, but finally, I got a chance to share my side of the story.

After hearing me out—and perhaps realizing I was serious about posting a review—she softened her tone. She admitted both sides could have handled things better and gave me four $10 coupons (each session is $30/person, and four people can book a private session) so I could return with a group of four and request **Shelby** as our coach. That was a nice gesture, but by then the experience had already taken a toll.

What could’ve been a fun, low-key activity turned into a surprisingly stressful ordeal. If the original coach or the GM had simply spoken to me calmly and fairly from the beginning, this could have been avoided.

**Final thoughts:**

This place might be great if you already know how to throw or if you're lucky enough to be paired with a supportive coach like Shelby. But if you're a first-timer, be aware—it’s strict, not very forgiving, and definitely not the kind of place where you can relax or learn at your own pace. The rules are only explained once, and if you miss it, there’s little room for second chances.

That said, I’m leaving a neutral 3-star review —credit to Shelby for his kindness and professionalism, and to the GM for eventually trying to make things right and prioritize safety.

Bonus tips:

1. You can join a league if you’re really into the sport.
2. A group of 4 can book a “private session” and request a specific coach —which I highly recommend doing if you go.

Everyone in our group had a great time. We ate before we came, but as soon as we walked in the door we felt the vibes, and our coach, Jeannelle, just helped elevate those vibes. We joked, supported & cracked jokes on each other, and Coach Jeannelle was a part of it all. I wished we did a longer session, but after we finished throwing we stayed to play some games & darts. I’m looking forward to coming back with a bigger group.

The place seemed okay but we had an unhinged instructor. He immediately started bragging about how many people he’s trained and started profusely swearing and acting all buddy-buddy even though we had just met. He was loud, unclear, and generally acted unsafe. For example, he would approach people about to throw unannounced to correct their form, while they were about to throw. We never learned about a blood circle or the “got it” communication necessary for handling sharp objects. He would routinely wield axes outside of the throwing zones to demonstrate, and we all had to back up in response to this (not being told beforehand).

He was also loud and did not solicit questions from anyone, leaving us to ask among ourselves. When I did ask a question, he said “hey you’re not running this thing, I am” and told me to keep throwing axes and did not answer my question.

He verbatim said “I am crazy, don’t mess with me. My boss hates me” while wielding an axe.

I can’t think of worse qualities for an instructor with dangerous equipment: hubris, narcissism, and general disregard for safety.

All of us in the group felt extremely anxious when he was around yelling at us about our form, and had a lot more genuine fun and felt safer when he was helping another group.

The axe throwing part was fun, but this guy is genuinely a liability to this place and its business.

Went to Urban Axes for a surprise birthday party. Called ahead to ensure that it was kept a surprise, the person who answered the phone was amazing and willing to keep the surprise. When we got to the throwing bays with the coach, the coach ruined the surprise after we had been told that he knew to keep the secret. He asked when the rest of the party was arriving, giving away the fact that more people were coming. In addition to ruining the surprise he was condescending and didn't bring an upbeat vibe that was necessary to keep everyone in the party engaged. We probably will return but would request a different coach.

We recently visited Urban Axes, and unfortunately, we were extremely dissatisfied with the service. Drew who was our coach behaved unprofessionally: he sometimes threw axes on our behalf without our consent to show off in front of other people. To make matters worse, at the end of the day, he approached us demanding additional tips via Venmo, despite the fact that we had already left a 20% tip during the payment.

This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable and reflects poorly on your establishment. If you want to improve your service and retain customers, we strongly suggest addressing the issue with this particular staff member. Your club has potential, but incidents like this make it hard to recommend.
