It has been many years since I'd been there. The popovers were just as I remembered them. The main entrees were excellent the rice and potatoes were average. The rice had zero seasoning. The potato was undercooked. We had a nice table by the window. FYI some of the ceiling tiles are stained. But please don't take my comments as criticism. I've loved the place since I first went to Hawthorne By The Sea in the 1980s when I lived in the area. I will be back the next chance I get. Thank you.

My boyfriend and I went on Saturday night with a reservation for 6 PM. It is a beautiful restaurant and it's like stepping back into time and an amazing view on the water. The restaurant was not busy at all and there were so many open tables, yet the host sat a table of 4 people pretty much right on top of our table. There was maybe a foot between us, and we could hear every single word of each other's conversation. I could see if it was busy and the tables were full but at least 85% of the restaurant was empty. The food was ok. Definitely nothing to write home about. We had the steamers for an appetizer. Decent portion size. No melted butter with it. Never had steamers where melted butter wasn't served with it. They were ok though. Cleaned well and not sandy and had the water to rinse them in still just not the butter. I got the Sea Scallop dish and he got the jumbo baked stuff shrimp. Again, decent but nothing to write home about. My scallops were really drenched in butter. Maybe that's where the butter went that was supposed to be served with the steamers!! Our waitress was just going with the flow. I don't know her name as I don't believe she provided it to us. She didn't seem thrilled to be there. She wasn't rude but not very friendly either. I would have to say the worst part of the night was when she took our food away and didn't even ask us if we wanted a to go box. I had 4 or 5 scallops left and he had 1 big stuffed shrimp left and we definitely wanted to take it home. I think we were both kind of in shocked that she just took it that we never even said anything. She came back and asked if we wanted dessert which we decided not to as we were still a little taken aback about the no to go box.

A must try and we will 100% be back. The restaurant was very pretty and the backdrop of Boston on the water at sunset was incredible!! Excellent food! 4 of us went for a late dinner. The pastry puffs were amazing! Definitely have the lobster bisque, incredible. The scallops were the best we have ever had!! Scrod was cooked to perfection as well as the steak. The white wine paired with the fish was fantastic. No room for dessert unfortunately. Waitress was super pleasant and attentive. If you miss this restaurant it is your loss! Would highly recommend!!!!

Wonderful restaurant with nice ambiance, beautiful views, excellent food and excellent service. You never feel rushed to finish and get out. It's a very relaxing and enjoyable dinning experience.

Surprisingly excellent!!! Lobster Bisque was as good a you can get. The Grey Sole was fresh and beautifully prepared. And, of course, their famous Popovers are worth the trip alone! For dessert, the table split Baked Alaska, fresh baked Blueberry Pie, and a most delicious Summer English Fruit Pudding. Sadly, people are looking for the newest “in” thing, but even though this restaurant has been around for well over a 1/2 century, there is a good reason for it!

Our food was fair. The big stuffed shrimp while the presentation looked nice was absolutely tasteless. Two people got that at our table and both agreed it was awful to the point that we did not eat it. A waitress was absolutely delightful and brought the manager over And they offered to get us something different. Others at the table, felt that the meal was just OK, although one said that the haddock was very good. We were very disappointed.

The ratings for the restaurant were exceptional but our experience was not. The highlight was the flexibility in moving our reservation back 30 minutes. We were a family of five people looking to have a nice family dinner, this was not the place to do that. Our waitress bordered on rude. She was unable to answer our simplest questions about the menu. When we asked for to go boxes, she stated “I will bring them to you” and left them on the table. Then we watched her box up the food for the table next to us. She did not engage in any friendly banter or make us feel welcome in the restaurant. The food was lackluster. The best meal was the salmon. I hope this review helps others make a better decision about where to eat.

Viola was our server and she was excellent. Very personable. The appetizer steamers were so delicious, we got a second order!

Anthony's continues to be the best seafood restaurant in the area. Excellent service and great ambiance. Their popovers are as good as they were 30 years ago. Fish is always fresh and delivered to the table hot.

Anthony's iconic location has been a family favorite for decades. The Athanas family's sons are still doing a wonderful job. It was a quiet late afternoon birthday celebration for my mother and it was lovely. The baked stuffed lobster was delicious and the body was full of meat. The popovers were steamy and delicious. Even the appetizers (calamari and fried clams) were great!

Opentable Diner

Anthony's Hawthorn never disappoints. The perfect place, thoughtful decor, ambience, warmth! A lovely place to celebrate the joy of conviviality. Limited menu, assures each selection is carefully prepared, presented, and professionally served! I adore dining at the Hawthorne! It is an icon on the North Shore. Sweeping views, picture perfect sunsets... a place to linger and enjoy. The best steaks, and fresh seafood and a traditional desserts! So many memories, simply lovely! Thank you for all of the times we have shared. A restaurant par excellence!

We were visiting Boston and were very excited to explore this beautiful city. On our first evening, we decided to have dinner at this restaurant based on its good reviews on Google. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing.

The host who greeted us was extremely rude, acting as if he were doing us a favor by seating us. He placed us at a dirty table with visible drink stains. When we politely asked for it to be cleaned, he responded with clear disdain. Rather than offering to move us to a clean table, he just started wiping it — and given how small the tables are, it felt uncomfortably close.

Later, while we were waiting for our order, the same person started opening the window curtains. Instead of kindly asking us or the lady at the neighboring table to make room, he just rudely squeezed between us, without a word of apology.

The only positive part of the experience was our friendly waitress and a decent glass of wine. Sadly, the overall atmosphere and treatment made us feel unwelcome. Definitely not what we hoped for on our first night in Boston.
