I gave them 2 stars because the Homefries were yummy and service was good. I order sour dough toast. One very small slice of toast not enough for 2 eggs. Too cheap to give you 2 slices of toast they charge me a dollar extra slice. I’ve never been to a breakfast place that too cheep to give you 2 slices of toast especially when the toast is especially small! Good grief toaster all come with two slots. The coffee is $4 a $1 dollar more than most places!. They are so cheap they even explain that they have surcharge for eggs!
Food was great. Cute place. Not pleased that they locked the door to stop incoming patrons at 12:45pm (close at 1pm). We had to unlock the door ourselves to exit. Serious fire hazard.

Every time we eat here we enjoy the food. The problem is they lock the door prior to the stated closing time. Arrived on a Tuesday at 12:40PM (closing time 1PM) and the door was locked. This has happened several times in the past.

I wanted to like this quaint cafe. Walked in and no greeting. (Waitress was talking. ) Seated and given mug of coffee. No table cloth on tables. The black mugs were chipped on the rim and the coffee although good , was barely lukewarm. No refills offered, had to ask. Served with a few creamers in plastic. Ordered the homemade coleslaw. (There were no carrots at all in the slaw, hardly any dressing just green cabbage , no spices , no pepper, nothing - just totally tasteless so called coleslaw for $4.00. Worst I ever had. The Ruben had warm cabbage, cheese however the bread was totally soggy bottom, corn beef was decent. Bread was Not cut on diagonal. Charged extra for the soggy bread that I was unable to eat. (Didn’t they drain the corn beef? ) Up charged 60 cents if your order has any eggs and 3.75 percent charge for using a credit card. For the price plus tip, I could have eaten in a lovely place in any other town. Don’t understand how a business can pass the banks fee to use a credit card onto the customer!
Super cute spot, food was typical breakfast options, everything tasted great and the waitress was incredibly friendly. Will be back for lunch soon

A small local cafe in Townsend MA is just great!
The veggie scrambled eggs were amazing and plentiful.
The baglewich was second to none
Price low to moderate .
It is a bit on the small side for setting so go early and often.

I've been going to Cliff's on occasion for many years now. Just note that seating for parties of more than two is quite limited so try to come at non-peak times if you are a party of three or more. What I noticed today is that the pricing has increased dramatically ($3.50 for a cup of coffee and today, at least, we drained our cups to the bottom and had to ask the waitress for more!) But what I really found to be the reason for my review was that the breakfasts were only served with a single piece of toast. When I asked about it, I was told that bread was expensive. The waitress said she could bring me another piece at extra cost (menu listed it as $2). Huh? Granted there has been some inflation, but $2 for a single piece of toast? Finally, the bill came (which I usually don't examine but did so this time because of the toast) and the bill had written on it $53.50 total after taxes. But the register tape had $55. I didn't ask about this discrepancy but could they be charging extra for credit card payments? Anyway, this visit the waitress was not attentive at all and the pricing/portion was unimpressive. I usually tip >20% but not this time. I won't say that I will never go back, but I will certainly seek other places to meet friends and family before considering Cliffs again. Sorry guys. Penny wise pound foolish. If bread really is $2 a slice, it might be better to hide the cost in the overall meal cost and serve two pieces. That is less noticeable.
I’ve been there twice recently, and as a single diner, I feel frowned upon and less than.

I enjoyed the croissant breakfast sandwich with bacon, eggs, and cheese. The wife had eggs over medium with toast. We both enjoyed it and will return.
