Was in the traveling in the area and needed some sort of stir fried vegetable in my body. The chicken and broccoli, rice, and hot tea was perfect.

I recently moved and used to be a couple minutes away from this place and will really miss it. The servings are very generous and the prices are fair. A nice hidden gem if you’re ever on moody st. It’s almost always empty inside but don’t let that fool you!

I recently tried takeout from this Shanghai Cuisine restaurant, and it's a hidden gem! I can't believe I've been around here for so long without knowing about this place. It's extremely authentic. The soup dumplings were excellent, and the lo mein—I've always had a hard time finding great lo mein—and this was one of them. This has definitely become my go-to spot for these dishes, and I'm excited to try more next time.
The atmosphere is pretty basic on the inside, but honestly, that's part of the charm. It's very much focused on the food. The language barrier is also something to keep in mind—unless you speak or read the appropriate languages, those are the primary ones used. However, there are English translations available, and while they're not always perfect, they’re close enough that you clearly know what you're getting, which adds to the authentic feel of the place. You can tell this place is the real deal by who’s buying there, too—locals who clearly know what they’re getting. Highly recommend! Can't wait to go back.

I’ve been coming to Shanghai Cuisine in Waltham for years, and it’s consistently one of the most authentic and satisfying Chinese restaurants in the Boston area. The flavors here truly capture the essence of traditional Shanghainese cooking, which is hard to find done this well.
Their braised pork knuckle (or pork hock) is a standout — rich, tender, and packed with deep soy-braised flavor that melts in your mouth. It tastes just like something you’d get in a home-cooked meal in Shanghai. The menu offers a great variety of regional dishes, and the chefs clearly know what they’re doing — nothing is overly westernized or watered down.
Highly recommended, especially if you appreciate real Chinese cuisine beyond the usual takeout fare.

I am writing to express my deep frustration and anger regarding a recent delivery experience that was completely unacceptable and distressing.
First, the order arrived later than the expected delivery time. While delays can happen, what followed was absolutely outrageous. The delivery driver—who was assigned by the restaurant directly, not by Uber—began calling me repeatedly, aggressively asking for a tip. I told him clearly that we would not be home for another 10 minutes. Despite this, he chose to stand in front of our door and wait, pressuring us with calls.
Eventually, my mother—who does not speak English—had to go outside and deal with him. He continued to pester her for tips, completely ignoring her discomfort and the language barrier. His behavior was pushy, greedy, and completely unprofessional.
What makes this even more frustrating is that, because the driver was assigned by the restaurant and not Uber, there is no way to identify or report this person through Uber’s platform. This lack of accountability is unacceptable. Customers should not be put in uncomfortable or unsafe situations because a third-party driver cannot be traced or held responsible.
This experience was not only disappointing—it was infuriating. I demand that this issue be addressed seriously and that appropriate action is taken to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

This might be the best Chinese restaurant I've tried around Boston! The food came in fast but was also freshly cooked. The pork tongue and the whole fish were authentic. This is Shanghai Cuisine and they are indeed good at non-spicy dishes.
It's also easy to find free 1-hour parking nearby. The place doesn't look fancy at all, but definitely don't overlook it!

Very decent Chinese restaurant. About as good as you’ll get in Boston. The pork fried rice is excellent, with generous meat and great consistency. Salt and pepper ribs are solid, string beans are as you would expect with nice heat. The Shanghai noodles were pretty good but I preferred the other items on the menu. Scallion pancakes were excellent; very crispy.

Real Shanghai taste. I came from Shanghai and my friend (she is also from Shanghai) introduced this restaurant to me. Very awesome, I missed my hometown food, and here they are.
