Not Your Average Joe's - Watertown

We had a very nice experience at JYAJ's in Watertown last night. There weren't any problems with my reservation, and the food was tasty and fresh. They listened carefully to my dietary restrictions and created a dish I could eat without worry. I would rate them outstanding on tending to food allergies (which is one of the reasons we pick this restaurant).

Great lunch. Excellent service. I had the Cobb salad and Diet Coke. The salad greens were fresh, the chicken was perfectly cooked, and the dressing was light and tasty. An overall wonderful lunch.

Sadly this was a disappointing experience for us. We've happily dined dozens of times at NYAJ before. The music was cranked up and obnoxious with poor sound quality. The atmosphere was desultory, with all the servers looking glum and harried. We did not receive our appetizer of chicken dumplings. Our server told us “it was a mistake, and delivered to another table.” We received a replacement as a takeout. I doubt we will return here again soon.

There were 6 of us dining on Saturday evening, Feb8th. The ambiance and service was wonderful but the food was disappointing. We ordered two orders of nachos one with chicken at $14.95, other pork for $16.95. Absolutely horrible, first of all came on flat pan approximately 5 by 8. They were dry, couldn't taste or see any of the meats, A lot of burnt chips on edges. Then the main courses come out Meat loaf, Chicken Marsala, Cheeseburger, Pasta were fine. However the Salmon entree at $29.99 was so salty, it couldn't be eaten. We did request white rice as the rice that came with it was loaded with soy sauce as well as the fish.(we should have sent it back as we could eat the Salmon as well). I would definitely not recommend the tacos or the Salmon Entree! Not so sure I would spend that kind of money to eat there again.

A couple of days ago, I had my baby shower at Not Your Average Joes in Watertown for about 40 people. The communication I had with Sara prior to the event was so so helpful. The pricing was affordable. The location worked out perfectly with parking behind the building. The food was amazing and lots of options to choose from! The servers were sooo nice, specifically Davante and Emily as well as the bartenders. Thank you so much for making this the perfect day for our baby shower!

One of the best pizzas we've ever had! The Mediterranean and the Margherita were fantastic! Sadly didn't take photos but our family live near by and they weren't wrong about how good it is. I'd never order anywhere else if we lived near one!

We had buffalo pizza, lettuce wedge ranch salad, and a fry. A simple meal, but we greatly enjoyed it. The restaurant wasn’t too packed so it was easy to chat. Our waiter was beyond the most amazing one we have had in a long time.

I think that for a simple spot to grab a bit this place hits the mark.

It’s a go to place for me in Watertown for years now. They have gluten free options, very tasty and the staff are good with ensuring there is no cross contamination. If you ask, they have a gluten free bread that they can bring with olive oil as a pre-starter and that bread is fantastic.
They recently updated their menu and now all the gf options are marked on the same menu. The atmosphere is also quite cozy and at the same time with the large windows they have, it’s airy. It has always been pleasant to dine there.

I've been eating at NYAJ for many years. The food was horrible at this visit. I ordered chicken piccata. It was swimming in sauce, the pasta was overcooked and the chicken also horrible. My grandson's pizza needed to be remade. I will try a different location but will NEVER go back to the Watertown location again!

The entrees we had were herb-encrusted haddock, bbq meatloaf, mustard chicken and chicken piccata. They were all very good but the mashed potatoes and spinach were salty as was the gravy in the meatloaf entree. The service was fine - Marlo, our waitress was really great. She brought me the sautéed spinach when I realized my meal came with broccoli, which I can't have. We liked the 2 different price options for the wine selections. Overall, it was a nice meal, nice atmosphere and an enjoyable time with friends.

We used to eat there often. Tonight the food was awful. Almost raw scallops on oily couscous. I should have sent it back as I feel ill. It was dissappointing. The chicken piccata was good and the bread is always excellent. The service was friendly and very good. They should stick to basic American food in the $20 range. Not likely that we will return.

The service was great! No complains about our waiter. The food on the other hand was nothing to write home about. The Chicken Caesar Wrap, the chicken tasted like it was reheated and not fresh at all. The caesar salad tasted way way way too fishy. Overall we paid $130 and left 95% of the food of the food on the plates.
