Last night's dining experience was less than expected. My husband and I were dining with another couple. When they asked if they could have their salad come with the rest of the meal, the waitress replied that it would mess things up and take longer if they organized it that way. My swordfish was charred black on the outside and raw inside. It tasted very fishy. I have never been served rare/raw swordfish before. In addition, my husband asked for his steak medium rare and it was served raw. He does not like to make a fuss and insisted that he would eat both dishes (his and mine). As we were with friends, we did not want to send the food back and make a stink about it. In addition to being raw, the meat was tough and oddly presented. It was hard to cut. Overall, the experience was sub par considering how expensive it was. The meal was a failed attempt at being "foodie."
This was a true dining experience! We live right down the road from State Road Restaurant and have never been able to get in due to not having reservations. Finally got reservations, and this place did not disappoint. The food from the appetizers to the meals was outstanding. From the scallop to the baked cod dish, to the prime hanger steak, outstanding. The service was one of our better experiences by far here. This restaurant should be nominated for a James Beard Award.
The best food and memorable place for any family visiting Martha’s Vineyard . This place is a place to celebrate , cherish and feel satisfied after you have eaten here . The beautiful outdoor surroundings and the path the entrance itself is made inviting for any one waking in . The indoor seating is strictly by reservations weeks ahead . The place is so popular and buzzing with people in evening hours that you feel lucky to get a confirmed reservation . The choice of food is both veg / non veg . The salads are a prized delight and the breads are a dream with special butter and lemon zest to ricotta cheese . We were 4 family members and mostly we ate vegetarian based dishes . Mushroom , Glazed carrots and focaccia with herb butter was superb and a triumph . The list of wines are impressive . The service is super and the ambience is unmatched . The prices are high so is the quality of the food . A very memorable place .
Without question, this meal from threshold to end was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. These folks have created a down to earth fine dining experience with the highest grade of wait staff, lighting, comfort, sound and space between tables. The creative and layered complex bites of food blew my mind. I will dream about this meal and this 10 star restaurant for a very long time. Just exquisite. I had the seared scallops, the focaccia with a gorgeous olive butter, and the olive oil cake for dessert. Every last detail in every dish was perfect. Our waiter was the best we ever had, and we talked about this meal many times since.
Not sure I want to write this because it's already hard to get reservations, but it's our favorite restaurant on the Vineyard. Beautiful, calming environment; welcoming, professional servers; delicious dishes grounded in local, fresh ingredients; perfectly prepared and plated. Expensive but our go-to for a special night out.
We finally tried this restaurant and liked it so much that we brought friends back the next week. Sat at the bar the first time and in one of the dining rooms the second. Servers and bartender are top notch. Lovely atmosphere. We really liked the duck but it was off the menu by the second visit. Had the shrimp and polenta appetizer both times, it was fantastic. The seeded focaccia is also a don’t miss treat. We had and highly recommend the cod and the grilled swordfish entrees.

The ambiance was nice. Food was ok, not a lot of flavor. We got there early in the evening before it was very busy. Staff not very welcoming or friendly. The greeter at the door, the man with grey hair, was on his phone when we walked in and he did not acknowledge us. Did not feel very welcomed for first time visitors. The seater just dropped us at a table and walked off did not ask if it was ok. We stood and waited to see if someone could assist us in relocating to another table and waiters walked by without offering assistance. When ordering our meal the waiter was very keen on telling us what they could not do rather than what they can do to make the experience positively memorable. Eg cannot substitute regular potatoes for mashed potatoes. I expected more from a higher end restaurant. Their customer service needs a lot of work. Would come back but more for the ambiance and will not have high expectations.

The food is excellent! Hangar steak, swordfish, end of summer veg, shortrib, warm salad. Affogato and the apple dish were excellent meal enders. The downside is the service - the hostess dipped our menus in the table and walked away before we even had a chance to sit down. The restaurant is extremely dark (everyone is using phone flashlights to read the menu). We had a member of our party with a vision impairment and I kindly asked the hostess if we could possibly be moved to one of the multiple tables on the window because of this (it was an early seating), and she didn’t even try to make it work. The tables sat empty for most of the time we were there. The waiter seemed nice but never asked how the food was, weather I wanted another drink, etc. no one thanked us as we paid and left. A little more care in the front of the house would do wonders. Kitchen is 5 stars. I would suggest table lights that cast the light down - would allow diners to see their menu AND the food (which is beautiful when you shine your flashlight in it) while still maintaining the ambiance. We improvised by setting our phones atop wine glasses and casting a light down on the table. Like that there wasn’t loud music playing.

Food is decent, with good quality ingredients, but too much going on in each dish. It's a lot of money for what you get.
It's a nice evening out, but don't expect the moon.

Food was bland and boring. Everything has dairy in it. Not really open to modifications for restrictions. The service was the best part of our visit here. Major disappointment.

This is one of the best meals I’ve ever had. My girlfriend and I were celebrating her birthday and we tried multiple dishes on the menu.
Firstly, it may be out of the way from the main cities but it’s 100% worth the trip. Everything is farm to table, laid-back, casual atmosphere, and a very cool restaurant design. There was also a very professional and kind wait staff.
Now, the best part, the food. We got the mussels, burrata and the polenta to start - every dish was exquisite in its own way. Personally, I never pick any of those dishes on a menu because it’s not what I typically like, and I loved them all.
For entrees, she had the halibut (a special at the time), and I had the wagyu burger with brie cheese, bacon, balsamic onions, and buttermilk aioli on the side. This is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. So flavorful. Her halibut was also delicious.
We bought about 8 of their candy bars to take home. You can only buy them from the restaurant and one grocery store on the island.
Such a great place! Fine dining without the stuffiness of fine dining. The fact that they carefully select their food also is amazing.
Best money I spent in all of Martha’s Vineyard and I’d do it 100 times over.

I had this place on my Cape Cod bucket list specifically because I read somewhere Larry David frequents it (sorry, Larry). Now I know why! It was absolutely delicious and amazing start to finish. The drinks, food, service, ambiance-all perfect! I really appreciated the manager squeezing us in since we did not have reservations (make reservations)! It was my favorite meal on my Cape Cod and Islands adventure!
