Holy moly this place is amazing. It’s hard to find a really special Indian restaurant amid all the generic ones in MA but they nailed it.

As for dishes, naan and some curry sauces are great, basmati is decent, but they also have some terrible curry sauces. Among what I ate, vindaloo was exceptional, chana masala, aloo baingan, and home spice curry were also good, chicken dopiaza is ok, but sag paneer was just tasteless and chicken tikka masala was strangely sweet.Service is usually nice and friendly, but the last time, I ordered lunch thali for takeout but did not receive chana masala nor salad. Checking the receipt, I found that my order was changed to lunch box without notice. It was insincere.

We stopped in for lunch on Saturday and it was delicious. My two youngest children had the kid chicken kabob meals which was a good value. While my wife and I and our older child all had thali combos (chicken tikka, saag paneer, and All three were good but I think my Dal Makhani was especially delicious. My wife really enjoyed her kheer as well. The restaurant was very comfortable and quiet on a later weekend lunch and the service was excellent. We'll definitely be back.

I've had Spice Root numerous times and always love the samosas. This time I got the tofu sag which was bland and very watery, but the baingan bharta was very good. They have a vegan section but don't label the starters or anything else. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant.

I love this place. They appear to remember my father, brother and I even when we've been away for six months.I knock one star off for "atmosphere" because I'm turning into my grandmother, who really didn't like people, especially young people, and this restaurant is in a college town. I know I'm not right about this, but that's what's up.Anyway, food here is dope. Malai Kofta, Jalfrezi, Samosa, "Bullet Naan," Butter Chicken, and so on, all delightful.Full bar doesn't hurt a darned thing.Vegetarian options: We did have Sag Paneer, which was on point. Oh and the Vegetable Samosa, also a delight to all the senses.Kid-friendliness: Sure, why not. I've seen children there and they seemed fine.

Food was delicious. Lots of it (we took doggy bags and finished it the next day). Ambience was great. Service was excellent. Everyone liked their meals.

This is the best Indian restaurant in New England.

We lunched here and had the box specials. The samosa appetizer was really good. Lunch came on metal prison-style cafeteria trays which wasn’t the most aesthetically pleasing, but whatever. Rice and naan where good. One person had a mango lasse and liked it. I thought the spice sauce too salty and unfavorable. Coconut sauce did not taste like coconut. Masala sauce was good. Not many choices in Williamstown but I’m used to better Indian food. Service was good and atmosphere pleasant. Quite a few customers.

I placed my order two hours in advance and still had to wait another hour before my food was done. They didn’t have the courtesy to tell when I was going to get my order. I finally go my food and its the most watered down, bland, Indian-food I have ever tasted. Save your money and don’t order from this place.

Loved this place, great food and I liked the ambiance. People were very nice and the naan was fresh off the griddle and delish. I'm not a student but I love to see a student discount menu too

The chicken tikka masala was too sweet and the chana shag was floating in a a cornstarchy liquid. But the service and atmosphere and service were good.

Ate here for dinner. The restaurant has a vegan part of the menu. I had tofu saag. The saag was delicious but the tofu texture was strange.

My wife went for the lunch special: the Veggie Thali, with Tofu Sag, $12.95, served in a metal tray with compartments -- tasted OK, but the presentation was unnecessarily cafeteria-style. I ordered Baghari Thinga appetizer, $9.95: chopped shrimp floating in sauce, looking like soup. The shrimp was tasty. I also had the Aloo Gobi, $14.95: overcooked cauliflower and too much potato. My wife asked for, and got, a plain lassi with no sugar or salt: fine. I had two cheap Chardonnays that were OK.
