Aaltos in Portage la Prairie may be the best of Canada Inns restaurants. I have been to all of them and have never had a bad experience at this location. The food was great the restaurant is always clean and quiet. All of the staff were friendly and very professional. It would be wrong of me not to mention that Makayla who was our server was great.
We will continue to visit this location.

After attending many "seafood buffet" nights at other Aaltos locations across Canada and the experience being relatively uniform across the board, I decided to take me and my better half out to Aaltos in our home town of Portage La Prairie.

What an utter travesty. The only GOOD thing worth mentioning was the salmon and even in saying that, it was overcooked. The seafood pasta was bland and tasteless. The pasta was overcooked to mush, and the sauce was like wall-paste. The shrimp were tiny, sad and rubbery, the calamari was overcooked and not seasoned at all. The fried chicken was anemic, insipid even. After making it through the first (and only) full plate of disappointment, I decided to try the prime rib. What a mistake. It was overcooked and akin to chewing on an old work boot.

The dining room was a complete ghost town, we were the only 2 people in it. The only theme of consistency was the lack of seasoning on all the food. It's like the cooks have never seen a box of salt before in their careers. The service staff was friendly but inexperienced and I got the sense that they are 110% aware that the food is abhorred.

At the end of it, this utter shame of a dining experience came at a whopping price-tag of over 100$. If there was a way I could rate this experience at a 0, I would.

If you're ever in Portage and thinking about the seafood buffet at Aaltos, you'd be better off to lick the carpet. I will never be back.

Waited 10 min to be seated which is fine. After being seated was asked what we wanted to drink. Took about 10 minutes to get my hot water. Had to ask 3x to get my coffee. Along with my hot water server also brought a very dirty glass of cold water with floating things in it. Had to ask what it was as I thought it was maybe lemonade with pulp and she said it was water. Gross. We had now been there 45 minutes and no one had taken our order when I finally called a server as we only had 1.5 hours to eat. Decided to only have toast as other people had been waiting close to 1 hr for eggs and toast. Toast arrived in about 10 minutes which is very acceptable, only problem is that they were ice cold and very hard.

Not to bad of food, went for fisherman's friday not as good as it used to be, and for 40 for an adult not worth it IMO.

Our server, Makayla, was extremely efficient, courteous and attentive each and every time that we sat at one of her tables. She was quick to deliver our food and also to keep our cups filled with fresh, hot coffee. Excellent service!

The Sunday brunch today was fabulous. The staff was great. Our server Lindsay went above and beyond to attend a table of 10 with 4 little kids. The chef Mike did such a wonderful job with my allergies and even made an eggs Benedict for me without ham I would definitely recommend this to anyone

We had our staff appreciation brunch here and we really enjoyed our meal. We were able to have 20+ employees in the back private room. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food came out quickly. They refilled our coffees multiple times. It was nice to be able to have some privacy with the whole group as well.

Thank you Aaltos and Staff!!

We had lunch while we were at the Canad Inns in a meeting space with our Managers. They have a private room for large groups that can accommodate around 35 people. Everyone enjoyed their lunch and the waitresses were fast and friendly.
