I had been watching one of my favorite content creators who ate egusi every day, and it convinced me to finally try it. So, I went to this restaurant, but right away the experience felt off. The place had a strong smell I didn’t find pleasant, and the woman behind the counter was on the phone chatting with her family in her language. She barely acknowledged me while I stood there waiting to order. Eventually, she hung up, took my order, and told me it would take 10 minutes.
After about 15 minutes, the food was ready. I paid, brought it home, and called my roommate to try it with me. Honestly, his first reaction was, “Why does this smell so bad?” He wasn’t wrong—it smelled like something spoiled. We both tried a bite of the fufu with egusi, and it was awful. The meat was tough, dry, and the taste made me want to throw up.
I’m not someone who likes leaving negative reviews because I know it can hurt businesses, but later I told some of my Nigerian friends about it. They were shocked I had gone there. Apparently, that restaurant had a bad reputation—they’d even been shut down before for having rats. My friends said it was clear they gave me old, stale food. I couldn’t believe it.

I like their Ofada and Efo Riro, good portions and the fishy taste is not too much (I don’t like fish so it’s tolerable). However I ordered on May 20th and there was broken plastic in my food and I ordered a Fanta that never came. Next day I continued to eat the remaining and found another piece of plastic. The egusi is awful from here, it was pale and soggy, nothing like what it should’ve been. The okra was overly powered by fish so it was too much for me, may be nice for someone who likes fish. All other times I ordered I never had issue aside this incident. Also the peppered gizzard and suya were great!

I love their food so much, it’s my favourite African restaurant in the city! Good portion sizes, delicious Jollof rice and good spice in everything. I always try to order at least 1 new item each time, so far haven’t been disappointed!
Nice place to eat, and the service is good. Food looks home cooked. Saw a lot of Uber and Skip drivers while i was there. The Puffpuffs are definitely the best i have ever tasted

Ordered jollof rice and assorted with egg and the egg came rotten and it was the same for my friends order as well. The egg was brown and was stinky, when contacted the restaurant the response from the woman was quite rude and showed no understanding. So disappointed since I did enjoy their food.

I’ve had issues with atiga ALWAYS leaving something out of my order whether it’s an egg, plantain or protein they always do this and when I call in all the owner does is complain to me. I am a paying customer, the least you could do as a business owner is try to keep the customers you have. Today I found a piece of plastic IN MY FOOD. This is absolutely unacceptable, I want to support my people’s businesses but Atiga has proven over and over that they do not care about their customers reviews and concerns. You’ve lost me and my family as your customers, other people put in the effort to make sure their customers get what they deserve you’ve shown that money is all that matters to you. Make a change. I DO NOT recommend ordering from ATIGA.
