It was exactly what I wanted. Working hard, and had limited time for lunch. Someone mentioned shawarma, and we went to Baraka Pita Bakery. I watched my food being cooked and it was delicious. Got it fast and hot. Perfect quick lunch. Then,of course, back to the grind. At least I was full, happy ,and ready for the last half of the day. I'm going back, for sure.
I hate to say this, but after the same thing happening twice I feel that I have to.
I have been going to Baraka for years (quite regularly, once every month or two, for 8+ years). I have always got the same thing because I really enjoy it, it’s always consistent, it is a good price and portion. Approximately 6 months ago, I got my usual order and ate half for lunch, saving the second half for dinner (after I refrigerated it). About 3 hours after eating, I got intense stomach cramps and violent food-poisoning symptoms. This lasted about 18 hours, and it was absolutely horrible. Baraka was the only thing I ate that day.
I took a 6 month break from Baraka because I was really put off after being so sick. I was hoping it was a 24-hour flu at bad timing. So, yesterday I decided to try it again. I got the same thing, ate half for lunch, and finished it for dinner. Almost like clockwork- the exact same thing happened and even worse than the first time. I finished eating at 9pm and I woke up at 3:30am with excruciating cramps and food-poisoning symptoms. It is 3:00pm the following day, and I am still violently ill. I did not eat anything besides Baraka yesterday, and haven’t eaten anything since.
Unfortunately, considering I haven’t been stomach sick at all in the past 2 years besides right after eating Baraka in these two instances- I won’t be giving it another chance. It really sucks, because I have consistently come here for years. No complaints about the staff/atmosphere/taste of food, but this is something I will never do again.
Muşt must try beef platter or donier. Amazing taste
Best Chicken Schwarma in existence. My go to place ...good service. Friendly too.
Great food, kind staff.
A couple of days ago, I got a beef pita and a chicken shawarma platter. The pita was alright but tiny, and there was no dip! The shawarma had hardly any chicken, the garlic sauce was way too salty, and the texture was weird and starchy. Total bummer. Although the sweets were amazing, they were totally worth it.
One of my favorite kebab joints in Winnipeg. With good service. However, during peak hours lemb kebab wait is long. But the flavor and service overrides that.
The best donair you will find anywhere. I’ve had donairs all around the country and world. Nothing compares to Baraka. Consistently great food. The garlic sauce is to die for. Tried the cookies last week and enjoyed them too. Highly recommend to all my friends.
Love the food and love that they remember their customers. Dine in could use some TLC.
My favourite food in Winnipeg! Always so delicious 🤤!!

Fav fav fav. Chicken pocket with hot sauce. I friggen dream of this. 10/10 must try.
It's telling that you can show up any time from open til close and the lineup is practically out the door. This place is a Winnipeg institution.
