I ordered two cakes for my mom's 85th birthday. I requested cakes that reflected the things she is famous for in our family - one being soups and pies and the other her love of gardening, specifically peony and daisy bouquets. Chocolate Zen did an incredible job on her cakes and we could not have been happier with the results - my mom was blown away! I highly recommend Chocolate Zen for anyone needing custom cakes.
So friendly ladies! And delicious bakery
As someone who enjoys visiting different cafés around Winnipeg, I decided to stop by Chocolate En Bakery because the place looked cozy and inviting from the outside. The display was full of pastries and chocolate — definitely appealing if you have a sweet tooth.
I ordered a muffin, which was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it was fresh. I also had a coffee, which was nothing special — pretty standard, just like what you'd find anywhere else.
However, what really disappointed me was the customer service. Despite the warm and welcoming vibe of the space, the service was the complete opposite. The staff member who served me was rude and seemed like she didn’t want to be there at all. It was an unpleasant contrast and made the whole experience uncomfortable.
Overall, while the bakery looks great and the pastries are fresh, the poor service left a bad impression. I hope they work on improving that
Ordered the lemon raspberry cake and asked for dairy free icing, as we are lactose intolerant. Not only was Chocolate Zen Bakery able to make a dairy free whipped cream icing, but it was absolutely delicious! Multiple family members commented that it was the best cake they have ever had! We will definitely be back!
I stopped in here for the first time picking up a donation for MUR. They have a beautiful service dog named K9 Zen here and he definitely added to the cozy atmosphere of the shop. The truffles, dipped Oreos, and Turtle tart were phenomenal! Hands down the best sweets I've tasted in Winnipeg and I'll make sure I swing by anytime I'm in the area.
The reason why I didn't give 5 stars the opening hours are a bit limiting. It's mainly office hours expect some days on the weekend. If you work later, it's a bit of a struggle to get to this bakery. The Cakes and chocolate are amazing they have a lot of choice for gluten free.
Ordered two cakes for my friend’s birthday and they were both delicious!
The banana split torte was my favorite! Be sure to place your order in advance. Pickup and ordering went smoothly :)
Highly recommend!
Best cake in the city!
To add a little sweet to our event at Ashgrove Acres this cake was marvellous.

Had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Betty (the owner). Completely rude and unprofessional.

I stopped by search of French Macarons for my daughter’s 20th birthday. She wanted that instead of cake. I called in advance to see if they had the flavours she wanted and they had one of them. So I made the stop. It turns out they were mistaken. No biggie. I considered another flavour and started to browse and ask questions about some of the items I was interested in that didn’t have labels on them i.e. flavor. I asked for 6 macarons which was met with a stare and long silence. Awkward. It was like they were deciding if I was there to snatch baked goods and run or what the h*** I was even doing in their store. Though I was considering the meringues and focaccia I decided to shop elsewhere. Somewhere I might feel more comfortable browsing. As I began to pay, I realized that the Macarons were ringing up higher than the price I had seen on their website. Apparently they weren’t surprised it differed. Anyway, to their credit they offered to honour the price I quoted. And I was happy to take my leave. Afterward I wondered if I had a mistake - they were also selling coconut macaroons (the cookies) at $1.50 each. Maybe I hadn’t searched hard enough. (But who knows if that website price was even accurate.) I didn’t feel terrible for long though, because the Macarons were disappointing - hollow with a brittle top (see photos). Thankfully, I found some perfect vanilla macaroons at a shop near Edmonton and Graham where the folks knew how to smile. Birthday celebration saved. It is a hallmark of professionalism to treat all potential customers well, regardless of who they appear to be. To do otherwise is bad for the bottom line. As I was deciding how I might spend my money Chocolate Zen made the decision for me. Leaving was a relief.
