If you ask me for a hidden gem bakery+cafe shop, you best believe I will mention this bakeshop alongside others.
It's an easily overlooked bakeshop across Sargent Ave. that's been in operation for 4 years—and I've just known about it this year. It's most likely because they have a inconspicuous sign that is pretty much invisible to me and many others.
It's a sufficiently small place with seating for 2-3 groups or 6 single seating overlooking the window facing the road.
The service was friendly and inviting, while adding a touch of mystery and excitement.
The atmosphere was good, though not as exceptional as Cafe Nul across the intersection.
Overall, it's a shop I would go to every once in a while, and definitely a must-visit for pastry lovers!

Very friendly service although I went in to grab their special which was already sold out when I came in. I bought a regular croissant and tasted really great. Flaky, lot of layers, good exterior and interior texture and tasted great. They also have breakfast options and sourdough breads

We discovered Gato Bakeshop last year and it has quickly become one of our favorites We ordered a variety of vegan and non-vegan desserts for a graduation party and everyone loved them. We only told the 2 guests with dietary restrictions which ones were vegan. Many guest raved about the Rhubarb Pistachio Cake and were very surprised to hear it was vegan. After hearing that there were vegan desserts, people tried to guess the other vegan desserts. It became a fun little party game. Gato's desserts and bread are simply delicious, whether you are vegan or not!

This is a bakery/coffee shop that you will need to check out. While having all the usually suspects like delicious sour doughs and coffees. They also have in my opinion the very and I mean VERY best vegan baking options in the whole city of Winnipeg. I would say it’s 50% non vegan and 50% vegan pastries and you would never ever know. Go support local.

As a non-vegan, I read “vegan croissant” with some skepticism. I regret not taking a photo, but I had the Breakfast Potato Vegan Croissant and it was freaking amazing. Soft, flaky, crispy, flavourful toppings and fillings.. Just yum.
My favorite bakery. Every weekend I get croissants with different fillings that always blow my mind from the taste and amount of filling. I have never seen the filling just pour out. It's luxury. I love Gato! See you every Sunday.
One of the best pastry/bakery shop in the city! Many vegan options available and all tastes amazing.
I've had the chance to try several of their creations and they are really good. Recommend checking out this cute bake shop on Sargent
Gato Bakery has a cozy, inviting atmosphere, and I had high hopes for the menu since everything in the webite and FB looked so tempting. We arrived around 3:45 PM, just 15 minutes before closing, so that might have affected our experience. The croissants were just average, but I think it was due to the limited selection at the end of the day. We ordered the almond croissant, vegan sourdough croissant, and a danish.
The prices are decent, and there’s a convenient parking area right beside the shop. The lady at the cashier was really helpful and accommodating, which made the visit pleasant. I plan to return during their earlier hours to try more of their pastries .
