We had lunch, the lunch wasn’t great!!!! I ordered the ultimate grilled cheese, what I got was a potato sandwich. The food took almost 45 minutes to receive.

This is a 3.5stars - seems like a popular spot on the weekends (we went on a Sunday)
Ordered a sandwich and soup. Sandwich bread was over toasted slightly burnt and dry. The borsht soup was really good. The servers were friendly and attentive, but the business needs a better flow of taking names instead of having people wait and line up throught the middle of the restaurant. Overall I would eat here again because it is local, close to home, and the food was not terrible.

Staff are knowledgeable. I have a nut allergy and the always check with the cook or Baker if what I'm ordering has nuts in it.

When you have brisket on almost every option on your menu, you would think it would be good. Brisket and gravy, brisket poutine, brisket burger. Everything else food wise was good but the brisket was terrible. It was like shoe leather. None of us could even chew it.

Wife and I went there a few weeks ago and it was our second time. First time was great, and we were looking forward to our second time. I don't normally write reviews but this disappointing experience was a lot of money for what we got. We spent like over 50$ for something that was almost brought out incorrect, and a brisket my wife couldn't eat because it was old and chewy. I'm also disappointed we had to pay full price for a replacement meal for my wife when they had the audacity to serve her that brisket, which they admitted had been sliced the day before. The waitress was nice and apologetic, she seemed embarrassed which I empathize with because she is just the waitress, but the chef coming out and deflecting blame while also trying to see if we were happy was off putting. We won't be back but I don't think this place deserves a 1 star because the poutine was good at the very least.

The Oakwood is an absolute delight from start to finish. The atmosphere is warm and inviting — perfect for both a casual meal or a special night out. Every detail, from the decor to the service, is thoughtfully executed. The food is outstanding. You can tell there’s a real passion behind the menu — everything is well-crafted, flavorful, and beautifully presented
The service was top-notch — friendly, knowledgeable staff who truly make you feel welcome and cared for. They clearly take pride in providing a quality experience. I’ll definitely be returning and recommending The Oakwood to friends and family. A true gem!

Good breakfast joint (original review from several years ago)

What happened? Absolutely awful food. There was no one in the restaurant at 1300 on a Saturday, and the service was friendly, but very slow. I ordered fish and chips. It was so over cooked that the fish was dried out and chewy. The batter was so over cooked I couldn't cut through it. The fries were cold and soggy. The 'coleslaw' was just slime. My wife ordered a cowboy breakfast bowl. It came ice cold and the 'guacamole' was rancid tasting. All this at fifty dollars. Please have mercy on the people of Winnipeg and close your doors to spare robbing people who think they are getting food, when your food is not even fit for animals.

I am going to try to put two visits in one review. May 5th Lunch. The place was occupied by a bunch of entitled middle age white guys. Loud is an understatement. It must be tempting to book a large group, and we could have turned around and left as many did. But we stayed. As usual the service was great as was the food. I had the Breakfast Eggs and chicken on waffle. Great!!

Skip ahead - dinner. place was empty. Three of us including a Foodie from BC. She was blown away by the honey chicken waffle. Service was super. I had the Brisket poutine and it made me sick because I was stupid enough to try and eat it all. Huge portions! Great food.

First off, I wish I could give the service 6 stars. We visited on Mother's Day and had a newer server. It was packed and yet she went out of her way to make sure our order was correct and our table was happy and hydrated.

The food was excellent and to order, including modifications. Considering the volume of tickets, we got it very quickly and it was delicious and generous.

Unfortunately, the atmosphere in the restaurant tends to be quite noisy. I understand that the recent visit was on Mother's Day, meaning more clients however we have visited at other times and the sound really does tend to travel.

Would come again, but perhaps not for an intimate family talk.

We were craving fish and chips. The Oakwood did not disappoint. This was the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. This was our first time here and will definitely go again. Service was also very good.
