I used to love Peasant Cookery and never had a bad experience here in the past, but my most recent visit was extremely disappointing. I went for oyster night and my friend and I both ended up with violent food poisoning for two days afterward.

On top of that, our service was painfully slow. We waited 40 minutes just for our second round of drinks. I understand it’s a busy night, but if you know it’s your busiest night of the week, staffing should be planned accordingly. We ended up paying the bill and leaving before even receiving our second drinks.

After this experience, I won’t be coming back, which is really unfortunate because this used to be one of my favorite spots.

Great menu with a few hits, including the moules-frites and basically anything with a sauce/gravy (as they do it superbly!).

We got a great table. Food was great, and ambiance was great. Service was just ok though. Overall, still a great evening.

Service was slow, but they were friendly. Food wasn't up to par. Calamari was flaky, none of the breading actually styled on the calamari and the seasoning was absent. Bison was dry and chopped into tiny little pieces. Desert was great.

Ambience is tough when the restaurant windows sometimes showcase what DOWNTOWN WINNIPEG can demonstrate. Perhaps it could be called entertainment but it, potentially, dissuades one from enjoying the patio area or a table too close to the window. All in all, the food and servers were excellent. I always will come back!

Nice place, good food but the portions could be bigger.

Started with a Beet and Spinach side salad; the presentation was awful but it tasted okay. Ordered Steak Frites "Rare" it came "Well Done", I sent it back and it took 15 mins to get it replaced. Replacement was cooked to "Medium" ......I ate it anyways because I was starving by that point and had no faith the next one would be any better. Fries were very good and nicely crispy. Decor is well worn and in need of replacing; many upholstered pieces are torn with gaping holes etc., overall the place is in bad shape. Don't think we'll be going back unless something drastic happens. Super disappointing as it used to be a really good restaurant.

Service fast. Totally accommodating to our fussy ordering. Shared the chicken livers, salad and chicken followed up by the cheese plate for desert. Chef choice cheeses were hard. I think next time we will request soft cheeses. All paired well with our beer and my decaf Irish coffee follow-up

I love coming to this restaurant as it is always consistent and delicious. Tasty drinks, amazing charcuterie board (generous meat portion), mains were tasty and also generously portioned. Got a trio of dessert which was fun to share amongst our party.

Our server was very attentive and polite. Will have to come back on a Thursday for the charcuterie deal!

We came here for lunch after visiting the CMHR. It was mid Friday afternoon so we had our choice of any seating. We picked a sunny spot inside the restaurant by the window.

Both the foods and services left a fond impression of our second (and great) meal in Winnipeg. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.

The fries of my moules frites were fried deep golden brown with a perfect and balanced crunch without being overwhelmingly seasoned. I almost couldn’t stop drinking the sauce by the spoonfuls even after all the mussels were gone.

My husband ordered a rueben and he was very happy, too.

We had a very lovely lunch.

I'm disappointed to have to make this review. My partner and I visited The Peasent Cookery recent for dinner. This was our second visit and we adored our first visit several years ago. However, this visit was not good. We ordered the calamari, the gnocchi and the pasta dish (it's not listed on their website right now). I remember warm, bright and deep flavors from our first visit. This is our food was heavy, greasy and didn't taste very good. My gnocchi was flavorless and very greasy. The gnocchi were barely cooked and everything else was over cooked and there was a pool of oil at the bottom. We will not be returning. There are many other restaurants where you can get a phenomenal meal for $100.

Went with friends on Saturday night and was a bit disappointed. It started with a really lame service - the waiter's attitude was as if he was doing us a big favour servicing our table. The appetizers were good, but really small portions, and the tartar really didn't make the cut - it was too spiced up overpowering the taste of the beef. For the main course I ordered the bison (scratch that - was told that they're out of bison and it will be elk) bourguignon. First, the price was the same, although it should've been less. Secondly, it was more of a beef (not elk) bourguignon - the meet was very dry and chewy, unlike the real beef bourguignon, where the meet should be extremely tender; there was almost no sauce, and definitely absolutely no traces of a red wine, in which the meat should've been cooked for hours; the mashed potatoes (and the meat) were almost cold, as if it was standing in a room temperature for quite some time before it was served. Bottom line - it was not near bison/elk/beef bourguignon, but a very mediocre and cold beef stew. Not sure, if we'll be back.

Had a great supper before our show and the staff was aware of the time frame we've allowed.

Suggest others request dressing on the side when ordering salads. Ours had so much dressing that it was hard to taste the vegetables
