My fiancé and I had originally organized our engagement shoot at a different local restaurant/lounge. The evening prior, I called just to confirm timing and was told they could no longer accommodate us with no explanation or apology. As you can imagine, I was immediately stressed especially since our photographer and my makeup trial were already locked in. I had no back up plan in place.
I reached out to multiple restaurants and lounges, hoping someone could help, and from the moment I received a reply from Erik at Sous Sol via Instagram, he was nothing short of amazing. Not only did he respond incredibly promptly, but more importantly, he took the time to acknowledge our situation and the stress we were under. He immediately offered solutions when he truly owed us nothing, not even a reply.
Erik went above and beyond to accommodate a space for our engagement shoot. From every last detail - from drinks, to candles, to ambiance and to the music. He made us feel so seen and incredibly special. Looking back, Sous Sol was actually the better location and fit my vision far more perfectly. It truly felt meant to be.
I am forever grateful for Erik’s kindness and generosity. He is a perfect reminder that there are genuinely good people in this world who want to help others. He completely turned my entire day around. I’ve been to Sous Sol countless times and have always had great experiences, but this one left a lasting impression and has made us want to continue supporting Sous Sol and their associated restaurants over others in the city.
Supporting good-hearted people who give back to the community and make their guests feel so cared for is incredibly important to us, and we will absolutely continue spreading the good word and referring others. He was genuinely happy to help and was excited to share that they had never hosted an engagement shoot at Sous Sol before, which made being part of their first even more special. Entrance is actually located in the back of the building (there's 2 doors, go through the left door #22, go down a set of stairs and a red door brings you right inside) Justin our server was great, food took awhile, but worth the wait. The restaurant has a great vibe. Aestically eclectic rustic french. find the rubber chicken 😊

Went for oyster night - Thursdays are half price and they were so delicious. Fresh, briney and so yummy. Grabbed some beef tartar, bread & butter and the Boar entree. I’ve been here numerous times and it’s always delicious. Atmosphere is super cool from the random antique style plates and silverware, the melted candles, random chickens hiding behind picture frames on the wall, overall one of my favourite places to eat in the city.

atmosphere is so cute, love the aesthetic and the dim lighting. server and service in general was great! but just a warning for anyone that likes flavour in their food, you will not find it here. cute presentation but lacks depth and flavour! Btw i got the gnocchi ratatouille, braised beef, and the bread. even the bread wasn’t memorable :(

Lovely atmosphere, we live close by and were able to get a table with no reservation. Food is good, some veggie options are available, potato dish was so good . My partner loved his tartare too. Garden cocktail served in a tea pot is a must try.

The atmosphere is cozy and the place itself is very nice. The Potatoes Dauphinoise were excellent, and the Boar Chop Dijonnaise was also quite good. Unfortunately, the Filet Mignon arrived cold, but the staff handled it well—the waitress took it back immediately and the manager came over to apologize, so the service and communication were great. The beef tartare was okay, though the portion felt smaller compared to other restaurants. Overall, the food was decent but not particularly memorable. The experience was pleasant, but the dishes didn’t stand out.

I went with a group of friends and found it so cute in there with the candles and decor but then they started playing Van Helen quite loud and speaker was behind where i was sitting. It ruined the vibe in there. The waitress we had was one of the worse who didn't bring the bottle of wine until we were almost done the entree, one person didn't get a water and she was quite abrupt in her demeanor. We left without dessert which is rare but the service was off putting we wanted out of there ASAP. Food was OK but not memorable.

We stopped by Sous Sol after watching Wicked, hoping for a pink and a green cocktail to celebrate. We mentioned this to our server, and he served us with custom drinks that matched the colors and even named them Elphaba and Galinda.
It was such a thoughtful, creative touch that made us feel genuinely seen and appreciated. We only came for drinks this time, but the service alone makes me excited to come back and try the food. Thank you for such a memorable experience!
