The Kuttanadu Duck Roast and Fish Tawa Fry were standouts, exceptionally flavorful. And the Dosa’s side dish was a great touch - loved the crunch!

Southern Spices in Winnipeg is an absolute gem for authentic South Indian food. The flavors are rich, perfectly spiced, and taste just like home. The dosas are crispy, the curries are full of depth, and everything is made fresh.
The staff is welcoming and attentive, and the service is quick even when the place is busy. Portion sizes are generous and prices are very reasonable for the quality you get.

I visited despite the bad reviews and ordered a paneer masala dosa. The sambar was extremely salty, so I mentioned it to the server and was given another bowl. The second one was slightly better, but still quite salty. I decided to continue with the meal, but it was far from ideal.
The restaurant itself was cold and definitely needs a makeover. The seating area wasn’t clean — I could clearly see dirt and food crumbs behind the cushions. Overall, not a great experience, and I won’t be returning.

You can never go wrong ordering their Chatti Porotta or Thalassery Biriyani, both are super flavourful and genuinely taste like home.
