The first batch of food took nearly 50 minutes to arrive. I’ve been here numerous times, and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all, so the delay was surprisingly slow. Before our first order even arrived, our waitress asked if we were still waiting for anything else and whether we wanted the menu to place another round of orders. This was confusing, as we hadn’t yet received what we initially ordered, and it highlighted a lack of coordination in service.

The second batch took another 40 minutes. We only ordered the torched salmon and deep fried crab, but only the torched salmon arrived, and we eventually decided to leave without waiting any longer for the crab.

What was more disappointing was that the second batch of torched salmon was noticeably flavourless compared to the first batch. The inconsistency in quality, especially after such a long wait, made the experience even more frustrating.

I don’t mind waiting when it’s justified, but in this case the service speed and food quality didn’t match the price. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t feel worth the time or cost.

The food was tasty, but I found a piece of a metal scrubber in my soup, so I won’t be coming back.

After being closed for three months of renovations, they finally reopened, and the upgrade is obvious. They removed the old floor-seating area and opened up the entire dining room, so the space feels brighter and more spacious.

Service was fast and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. It wasn’t very busy on opening day, so that might have helped, but I’m hoping they keep that pace as more people come back.

The food was excellent. I tried several dishes from the new menu and didn’t dislike a single one. The quality is honestly better than I expect from an AYCE place, and I’d say this might be the best all-you-can-eat sushi in Winnipeg.

The price did go up a couple dollars (now $38.99 before tax), but with the new menu and overall experience, it still feels worth it.

The only downside: the women’s washroom hasn’t been renovated and was noticeably dirty, which didn’t match the refreshed space.

Overall, I’m really happy they’re open again!!

went to Sushi Gen recently for their all-you-can-eat sushi, and it ended up being a really nice experience. The food came out fresh and fast, and for an AYCE place, the quality was actually pretty solid. One cool thing about the restaurant is that they have a traditional seating area where you sit on the ground. It adds a unique vibe, but I didn’t get to try it this time because you actually need to reserve those spots in advance. Still, it looked like a fun option for next time.
Parking was easy enough—there are some paid spots right around the restaurant, or you can just find street parking nearby, which is what I did. It wasn’t a hassle at all. Overall, Sushi Gen is a great place if you want a relaxed sushi night with good portions, a lot of variety, and a bit of that traditional feel without it being too formal.

The best selection and quality of All-you-can-eat Sushi that I’ve tried so far in Winnipeg. Price is very reasonable and service was excellent. Parking is a challenge though.

Food is average 6/10. Their sushi's got a lot of rice so I take rice off it.

Service? 1/10. They advertise that they close at 22:00. Last order 21:00. Understandable. But people are still eating around 21:15/21:30, and they're cleaning the bathroom and doesn't let anyone use it anymore. The servers doesn't seem like they even want to be there either. Still, they ask for a 15% tip for such service.

Nice to know I can't use the bathroom at 21:15 as a paying customer still eating. And also, they do close at 22:00. Maybe they should change it to 21:00 so they have more reason to not let us use the bathroom anymore.
