The Original Pancake House

My Grandson & myself were at the McGillvray Original Pancake House today around 12:30 PM. The service was over the top. We felt like royalty. We only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. The restaurant was full & there were lots of staff. My grandson had the giant ham & cheese pancake & I had the banana split crepes, both delicious..The servers were courteous & amazing.

Cheap, American style pancake breakfast, not much better quality wise than a Continental buffet. Chicken and waffles had dry chicken and limp steam-warmed waffles. The syrup served is water and sugar based and not real maple syrup. Sals is just better, and with a better dining space.

I ordered a garden veggie omletter, it was very over cooked, the spinach on top was burned and the outside of the omletter was dark brown and hard to bite through. The hash browns were unseasoned, undercooked cubed potatoes and the order took a very long time to arrive. Wouldn't recommend ordering take out from there.

We weren’t expecting anything out of this world for a chain breakfast restaurant but somehow still managed to be disappointed. Everything tasted watered down - from the coffee to the hollandaise sauce. “Hashbrowns” felt more like boiled cubed potatoes. Not crispy at all, unseasoned, and lukewarm at best.

Service was decent (at least four different people ensured our drink order had been taken). However, like many places, servers and cashiers hardly even made eye contact.

Ordered over the phone take out for tomatoe pepper soap. Staff over phone and in person very friendly. The food was ready quickly, hot and delicious 😋 Will definitely be back!

Nice to see Pancake House on Taylor Ave. Great food and nice clean and spacious. Service fell down when the server went on his brake and staff who was to cover off the coffee service, did not make the rounds for refills. Management needs to reinforce "customer service = happy customers= customer loyalty=revenue"

The pancake house really isn’t the same as it used to be. The food was mediocre. I know I did get a rather simple breakfast but it felt so bland and lacking. The potatoes were cooked but also undercooked and had absolutely no seasoning to them. I rarely add salt and pepper to my food in restaurants but I had to today..

The atmosphere is okay, the place is huge and was super busy (which is always great to see!) I’m not a huge fan of the way tables are set up. Felt so open and front and centre for people to stare at.

The service was also kind of weird. While they were friendly it just seemed so chaotic.

Overall it was an okay time, food is reasonably priced but honestly if I’m craving a simple breakfast I’m gonna make it at home next time.

We were seated quickly. Unfortunately 3 meals came out at the same time and the 4th meal came as we were finishing the 3 meals. Some compensation was provided. Meals tasted great. Portions were smaller than the ones that we had received at the McGillivray location. Service is being developed as we needed to ask for syrup and more water to be provided. Coffee service was very timely and polite.

Parking: Easy to park and walk to entrance.

The baby apple pancakes are my go-to! They were just as good as the ones I used to get here 30 years ago when I lived in Winnipeg. Service was friendly and attentive but not pushy. I had lunch with my cousin, whom I hadn't seen in at least 20 years, and we sat visiting for over 4 hours without feeling rushed out.

Our lunch experience at the Taylor location last Friday exceeded our expectation. We all ordered omelets which were cooked to perfection. Nothing could beat the home made hash browns which we loved the most. The contemporary ambience was the best and welcoming in town. We noticed the current menu was streamlined to display array of popular items which allowed us easier to choose. We highly recommend it to others.

Parking: Ample parking spaces are available in front of the Pancake House located at 1170 Taylor Ave.
