Although workers are friendly, food wasn't impressive.

First time eating from BBU. I ordered hard fried cat fish fillets it was cooked and seasoned nicely, the portion was good. My sides were mac & cheese and coleslaw. Mac & cheese was ok a bit under seasoned and the portion was decent . However, the coleslaw was not seasoned, very tasteless and a bit too chunky, dressed with mayo and I believe a hint of horseradish, definitely needs an upgrade, portion size was decent. My other order was whiting, small size fillets however 4 pieces in the dinner. Sides hush puppies and coleslaw. The hush puppies were doughy inside but crusted outside. Couldn't eat the raw dough. Custom service was great and the gentleman was very pleasant and very informative about the restaurant and future endeavors. I would try them again but would try different sides.

First time ordering from this restaurant and we were very pleasantly surprised, everything was delicious! The kitchen has 3 different cooks and they all make their menus, take out only. The employees are exceptional, very friendly and truly grateful for the business. We ordered salmon stuffed with crab meat. It was an dish that you don't see often and it was great, good size as well. We also got fried shrimp, they were very tender and done just right. I loved the mac and cheese, I appreciate it wasn't the common instant cheese sauce, but an actual smokey cheese. The employee Sam was great, opened boxes for us and showed everything we're getting, thanked us for coming and encouraged us to come back. They'll be making family size dishes for holidays as well. We'll definitely be back.

I am rating on food and service respectively.

I gave them 1 star only because the catfish was good not great but best edible part of the order.
The potato salad was mayonnaise and potatoes, no matter how much I seasoned to even taste close; better off with mashed. No mustard no veggies no sweet NOTHING ?
Mac n Cheese so dry it crumbled looked like the leftover at the bottom of the pan scraped up to fill the order. I questioned to myself where was the cheese. Ordered collards never got them ?
Fried cabbage, bowl of mush?dark and way over cooked.
Needless to say this place will and never hold up to the previous owner of Accokeek Seafood before COVID

No disrespect but this is a review and as a first time customer. I was more than EXTREMELY disappointed.

Hope you respect and use the reviews to improve your food product results.

BBU started out good . Slowly it declined … I ordered 2 jerk salmon subs last week (9/5/24) and it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever eaten I called back twice and no one answered!

I went here last night and it was really good. I am from Mississippi so I have had a lot of really good pork chops but this place has one of the best smothered pork chops I have ever had. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes and gravy were also really good. I got mac and cheese with my meal as well and honestly that was the only downside to the meal. The mac and cheese wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t great. They didn’t make a creamy cheese sauce they just had basically buttered noodles that had big clumps of cheese melted into it. I like my mac and cheese to be saucy. Everything else was great though.

On this past Saturday, June 29th, my 90-yr old Mother-In-Law wanted a fish dinner. We heard about BBU Kitchen online. This was our 1st time. So we stopped by BBU Kitchen at the Accokeek location and got a to-go Croaker dinner with greens and yams. It was over $23 for 1 piece of fish and 2 sides. They said it would be 15 minutes to cook so there would be a wait. I assumed it would be fresh. After I picked up my order and returned to my vehicle, there was a funny smell coming from the container. Sometimes food smells different in the close confines of a car. We assumed that maybe it was old grease used. Later on, my Mother-In-Law said it was STALE OLD FISH used not fresh. She didn’t eat it after the first bite. She said the sides were OK. We try to support Black business but we won’t be going back to BBU Kitchen. They should be ashamed of themselves for serving old fish to the Elderly.

We did an online order which was very convenient. We ordered the catfish platter with Mac and cheese and candied yams. And an order of the peach cobbler and honey cornbread. The candid yams are very sweet but delicious. The Mac and cheese has a good texture but the cheese tasted very Gouda forward. An unexpected taste that’s decent. The catfish wasn’t as crispy as I thought it would be but tasted good overall. The honey cornbread is good. The peach cobbler was a disappointment. A very small portion for 8.99. It was tasteless. Heavy on the dough and not enough peaches.

Edit 6/27/24
Responding to the owners comment: sir/ma’am, the peach cobbler container wasn’t tampered with. I took the video of what was sent out immediately in front of your establishment. You’re very aggressive with your response. I shared my experience/opinion of your company which I’m allowed to do. Once again the cobbler was terrible. Not an once of spice or flavor was seen or tasted. Lastly, I’m not affiliated with any restaurant. I’m a regular customer who wanted good food.

Absolutely not worth it. Never had turkey wings that dry before. You really have to go out of your way to make turkey wings that dry. The Mac and cheese also dry. Definitely could've used some evaporated milk and more cheese. Greens were better than canned, but still not worth the buy. Hope you guys take head to these reviews and better your product. Please attempt to take pride in your food.

We was fortunate to have BBU cater an event for us. We was first amazed on the customer serve, attention to detail and professionalism. Then the guest was just speechless on the taste if the food. There are many soul/american food places in the DMV. This is by far the best. The food taste just like we sat in the restaurant. I definitely recommend BBU for all your catering need. And please add the high puppies and cornbread ?.
