A diamond in the ruff indeed. Black-owned and family employers provide a unique and welcoming visit. Their pastries, cakes, and rolls are baked on premises. Handicapped and street parking. Also, in the summer months, they host (fee of charge) outdoor jazz concerts, with ample seating and opportunity to purchase meals.

Parking: Located on the historic Pennsylvania Avenue. You will get a history lesson, just as inviting as the desserts.

I love to stop by in the mornings on my way to work. The service is "Mom/Pop" style!! Real people, moving like real people and not robots. The individual slices of cakes are humongous!! The pound cakes are delicious. You can taste the love Poppay puts in everything!! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½

This bakery brings back such good memories! It reminds me of the heyday of the Sandtown/Upton neighborhood where small business owners proudly served their community. The baked goods are SO good! (And I have to add the Chocolate Cake to the Must Try list.) But, as important is the environment: warm, friendly, always immaculate. Chatting with other customers about what's good just adds to experience.
Do yourself a favor: Treat yourself to a visit. You won't regret it.

The atmosphere is old fashioned, but the food and the service are on point everytime. The Pound Cake is a hard hitter.

Their dinner rolls and sweet potato pie are great but the bean pies are terrible, had to toss the two I purchased. The Muslim bean pies are healthier....

Today was My first time in this establishment absolutely disturbing! I purchased several items. They had sweet potatoes pies that was cold from yesterday. I asked if I could get one fresh pie off the cooling rack where he was pulling the buns from. The guy told me β€œNO” I asked if I can speak with someone else and he also said no. I was suppose to purchase 4 pies instead I got three and the other items. After I paid for my items the guys at the register gave me my money and card and He said, β€œthe next time I tell you no that means no!” I completely lost it! I wished he was that rude prior to me paying. I probably would’ve thrown the bag in his face. Furthermore I told him next time! Who told you there will not be a next time, in between time, or further down the line time. I will never patronize this establishment or my family or colleagues ever again. I gave him a few choice words. This is why black businesses are declining because your customer service suck. You don’t know me or how I can contribute to your business. Moreover this type of behavior and attitude you will lose more customers. Remember the movie Pretty Woman! You just made a big mistake!

PS! When I return to my office everyone said, I should have returned the items I purchased” that was my first and last time! Peace!
