Blue Crabs were great!

Dave White

Sitting on the covered deck, enjoying the breeze from the harbor, and chowing down on perfectly steamed crabs is THE Baltimore experience. I grew up in the Fells Point/Canton area and always loved going to the Captain James restaurant. The crab shack, which sits across the street, is the perfect place to relax for beer and crustacean-y greatness. The crab cakes are pricey but among the city's best. We will be stopping by each time we visit home.

They sure do love their crab in Maryland. Nice location on the water with a fun patio.

If you're going for blue crab, this place is good. Anything else just stay away. Calamari were bland, the mussels tasted like rubber with Parkay melted on top, and the snow crab legs were meh... no seasoning, just tasted like boiled crab in water, and they were overcooked.

Everyone who got the blue crabs were satisfied though.

We had no experience with cracking crabs, but Irene provided excellent, patient guidance, plus steered us to the best deal for our money. Delicious food and we had an excellent experience because of this thoughtful, friendly server.

My only complaint is the bar tending in the vela room. It takes forever to get a drink and the same guy has tried to add random women's drinks to my tab "by accident" twice now fortunately I pay attention. If he cut it out it'd be 5 star experience.

They make you pay for water. There is no courtesy water. That, I did not appreciate. Been here 3 times for all you can eat crabs. Never improved. Will not go back

Been here since 1995, I believe they are still operated by the family. Always fresh and the price is right for a shore front restaurant.

Great service and food. I think there were a few issues out of their control the day we went. Drink machine down, and out of certain crabs

I have been going to Capt. James for over a decade. In the beginning as a Concierge for the Sheraton Inner Harbor and then as a regular customer, and our server Greg was the best server I have ever had.
