The drinks were delicious and I highly recommend the black forest cake cocktail. Was pretty crowded and only one of the two bars inside was operating on a Friday night. One person I was with had an out of state vertical ID (23 years old) that the doorman wouldn't take due to policy and refused to take any other form of identification. Bathroom was thankfully well lit, but the stall doors were short enough that my chin cleared the top if I stood up straight (average height) - I get that it's probably for security, but it sure makes for some awkward moments.

This is a legendary bar. If these walls could talk! It is probably the coolest hipster bar in the country.
I went there back in the day. It was a place where you could chat it up with John Waters and the whole Maryland Institute of Art scene.

Genuinely a safe space. Couldn’t ask for a nicer staff. I found myself in an unsafe situation, while walking in the area nearby.
Having gone to Club Charles numerous times I knew I could get there and be safe.
The staff was incredibly reassuring and kept me safe that night. I was given water and allowed to stay as long as needed.
Even without this situation, Club Charles has been a wonderful place to visit. I plan on returning often.

While the survive and bartenders are usually good. The co owner has no respect for women.I was looking into the building next door as I was interested in a potential purchase. This building is also owned by the same people. The owner asked me not to look into it . I complied and understood why he would be upset. However once we started to leave the sexiest owners said several disrespectful profanity laced comments to my girlfriend who had nothing to do with the situation. This bar has really gone down hill in the past few years.Do not go here as the male owner has no respect for women.
I don't recommend if your middle age and black. It was close to harassment the way the tall blond comb over.. perhaps manager's wanted to clean up our group of four glasses. Yet, he never cleaned up the other patrons that were gone empty glasses at the top bar. I was just visiting from GA but: "They not like us!" Just go somewhere else. Highly disappointed.
