I had a great experience at Martin's West. The staff was great. They were efficient, and very pleasant. They were a team and worked like clockwork. The food was amazing. The very best best thing I experienced; I had not been to Martin's West for a few years and at that time I complained to management about their handicap stall in the Ladies' restroom. You see I am a double leg amputee and at that time the stall was too small. I could not get into it to use it. If you used an walker it was fine but for a wheelchair manual or electric it was useless. I spoke with who was in charge and was told it would be corrected. In several weeks I recieved a very large box of candy and a call back and was told the problem had been corrected. The very first thing I did was visit the restroom. The handicap stall was perfect.

The crab soup served was basically tomato soup but everything else was good.

arrogant, inflexible staff, particularly their security, which is nothing short of a prison. They refuse to permit any kind of enhanced setups, and anything other than DJs are discouraged as they won't permit enough time to set up. The food is so-so...nothing to write home about, but they have such inflated egos that they truly believe people are there for the cuisine. They charge extra for just about everything, even electricity. About the only thing they have going for them is the facility itself, which has always been truly beautiful. If you're planning an event where you expect anything other than a shovel you in shovel you out attitude, I definitely recommend anyone other than Martins.

Went here for a NASA luncheon a while ago and I got the vegetarian option which was Indian food. I have to say I was super impressed by the portion and the food itself was delicious and beautifully presented! The venue itself was gorgeous too.

What a difference a zip code makes!!

I attended a crab feast a few weeks back at Martin's West. Prior to this event, I attended another crab feast at another Martin's located in Hunt Valley. It was an amazing experience. It was well organized, the staff was friendly, and the wait staff circulated the entire time to clean off tables and empty trash, and. Some even did a gig or two to the music.

I do not believe that every incident is about demographic differences, but I am confident that resources are deployed differently depending on consumers and zip code. I will save the rest of that for a podcast.

But back to Martin's West.

The order of entry into the venue was a little disorganized and there wasn't a lot of direction. That could be based on the sponsors of the event so I will not just place that responsibility on Martin's West. The most alarming part of my experience was when I was asked if I was finished with my paper plate. I told the server yes. He took the plate and left. Then, returned with the same dirty plate and gave it back to me. WTF?! Who cleans off a paper plate then gives it back at a public venue? I immediately spoke with management, and they stated that it was their first day. I will say this again and again, you cannot blame staff for what they do not know and what they have not been trained to do. Shame on management for bringing people out unprepared for such a large event. The attendance was nearly two thousand people. Efficiency should never come at the cost of hygiene and sanitation. Does management understand what type of unsanitary outbreak could have occurred giving back dirty plates? God forbid the dirty plate was given to the wrong person, and they did not have the wherewithal to know that it was unacceptable.

Management, please train your staff. I know times are hard. There is a shortage in the service industry, so I believe customers should possess a level of patience and compassion when frequenting venues. consumers work hard for their experiences, and they are not looking for excuses but good service. If there is a shortage of staff, there are ways to empower participants to take some responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and order. Not all challenges are budgetary. Sometimes we need to be more creative with how we distribute human resources.

Nonetheless, I had an amazing time! Staff were friendly but may looked like deer in headlights. I know it was not their fault but I cannot pretend that was not a problem. Create videos on service and start a blog about customer service just for staff. Highlight seasoned employees and their philosophy on service. Don't be like "Mommy Dearest": "No Dirty Paper Plates"! Support LOCAL Support your COMMUNITY. When you write a review be a solution to the problem not just a complainant. Best of luck, Martin's West. I am rooting for your success!!!
