Cost: For the experience and setting, the price point is higher than many casual spots, so it may feel “premium” rather than budget friendly.

Authenticity vs expectation: Some diners expect very traditional French‑bistro flavours and feel the execution is “good” but stops short of “excellent”.

Utility details: If you’re going for a relaxed evening, service and atmosphere matter and sometimes premium‑places have slower service (though I don’t have a strong specific complaint here for this place).

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and have always enjoyed Petit Louis. Our meals were delicious as usual. We made an early reservation and had a lovely table in the corner by the wine racks. After dessert they even gave us glasses of champagne with a candle. Such a nice gesture. Almost every person that we came in contact with was warm and pleasant. The only issue was our server Courtney who was very unpleasant. Perhaps it was just an off night for her but she was not welcoming in the least. In fact annoyed is how I would describe her demeanor. I only had 2 questions concerning the food and drinks and both times she behaved as though they were ridiculous questions to be asking. We still had a lovely evening but I definitely wouldn’t want her as a server again.

A very fine and right down the middle menu. The interior ambiance is also spot on. It's a good local place. Service was good, too. I'd go again.

The mussels were full of sand and clearly not cleaned properly. If it was just one or two, I could overlook it, but almost every single one was gritty! It felt like the kitchen staff didn’t bother to clean them at all. The duck breast was completely unchewable and overcooked, despite ordering medium rare. Compared to the tender and juicy duck breast I’ve enjoyed at other places, this one fell far short. The duck leg had crispy skin, which was nice, but the meat itself was quite tough. The roasted chicken was dry except for a few pieces near the leg. As for the crème brûlée—it was, honestly, the worst I’ve ever had—overwhelmingly sweet and far from enjoyable.
On the bright side, the service was good, and given the restaurant’s high rating (4.7), I’d like to think my experience was more of an unfortunate one-off rather than a consistent issue.

Service was slow, my pork chop was very nice but my wife's salmon wasn't worth the price

We celebrated our 9-year anniversary at Petit Louis Bistro, and overall the experience was wonderful. The atmosphere was lively and authentic, though seating was quite close together, which made it a little noisy at times. Parking was also slightly challenging, but once inside we were immediately impressed with the warm service. We had reservations and, even though we were running late, the staff kindly accommodated us without issue. Dinner started with the Soupe à L’Oignon Gratinée—rich, flavorful, and a perfect classic—and the Tomato Bisque, which was creamy and satisfying. For entrées, the Flanc de Veau Grillé with caper brown butter and fennel & arugula salad was cooked beautifully, while the Steak Frites with pommes frites and beurre maître d’hôtel was hearty and delicious. We ended the night with a flawless crème brûlée, crisp on top and luxuriously smooth underneath. Despite the minor inconveniences, Petit Louis made our anniversary dinner truly memorable, and we look forward to returning.

I loved the eggs and steak, and I also enjoyed the braised beef. The atmosphere is great, very lively and the servers were excellent. Also I do not know who the bartender is but they make great old fashions.

What a wonderful meal in an adorable French restaurant! We started with the escargot and eggplant appitizers. For meals we shared the duck confit and beef cheeks. Most recommended: Beef Cheeks, so comforting and delicious. Escargot was decadent. Must go! Be ready for a big bill and a full tummy!

We dined at Petit Louis for the first time on 16 August, 2025. The experience was superb.

It is rare to find a French restaurant in the U.S. that is truly similar to the gastronomic restaurants that one finds in Paris.

Petit Louis has the right ambiance and atmosphere; the right level of service—not fawning but friendly, detailed and correct; the right balance of space between tables that encourages some interaction between diners, the right lively level of energy.

But most of all, the classic French cuisine is correctly prepared, arrived at the table at exactly the right temperature, and had not been “fancied up” with additions that compromise the classic intentions of the cuisine (which is all too common among American French restaurants).

I don’t use the phrase “near perfect” casually, but when a restaurant gets so many things right such that the experience of dining is elevated to a meaningfully higher level than at comparable restaurants….the phrase “near perfect” seems apt.

We’ve lived in Paris, favor haute cuisine and have had the privilege to dine at some of the world’s best French restaurants. So for us it’s telling that the main courses and one of the deserts we had at Petit Louis were among the best we have ever had anywhere.

There are small details that are noteworthy.

The Maître D notices from across the room that a diner’s cloth napkin has dropped to the floor, and discreetly brings over a new napkin and exchanges it.

The bread served has the body and slight chewiness of French artisanal bread, not the drier look-alike bread that one tends to find in the U.S.

A flight of champagne arrives at the end of the meal with a birthday candle waxed to the bottom of the base of one of the flutes.

We want to congratulate Maître d’Hôtel Patrick Del Valle, Owner Tony Foreman and their team for the exceptional dining experience they’ve created.

Pricey but worth it. Actually had a special price section the mitigated the price so look for that. So good.
