The Buttonwood is incredibly aesthetic and has comfortable chairs. We will be returning! Very very reasonably priced too. While it isn’t fully open so there is only a partial menu, the food they have is good and there are gluten free vegan and dairy free options! The salt and paper chicken is GF and dairy free and delicious. Same with the Pakora! The drinks were very creative and yummy too. For a little bit our server disappeared and we were the only people in the restaurant, but it was the end of the meal anyways so was a bit inconsequential. He was very friendly and helpful and welcoming too.
Definitely worth the try.

Excellent find in Mt. Vernon and open on SUNDAYS + MONDAYS! Excellent bar — Max mixed great cocktails and had some off-menu suggestions that were very tasty!
Kitchen was quick and the food was really remarkable! Salt and Pepper Chicken and the Gruyère Beignets are absolute musts for the table!
Will definitely be going back!
Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options and many meat dishes had vegetarian substitutions!

Fantastic restaurant, service, and atmosphere. One of the more unique (and REASONABLE) menus in Baltimore. Highly recommend the Salt+Pepper chicken appetizer, Gruyère Beignets, and Katsu Chicken curry. The Mary Pinkford and Naked&Famous cocktails were wonderful. Enjoy!

I’m quite confused with my experience at The Buttonwood. Oddly decorated- ok, that’s fine. Drinks were ok, but it took the single waiter quite a while to take our order and even longer to make the drinks. There was only one other table of customers and they didn’t order food. The appetizers were just “fine”. Once the food arrived, that is when things took a turn. The French fries were, uh, just like McDonalds French fries. I’ve eaten a ton of McDs fries in my life and they have a very distinctive shape, smell, and flavor. I’m 98% sure these fries were the same. The Cuban sandwich that I ordered was so flattened and smashed, the meat was gray, and it had deli ham in it like you’d buy at the grocery store. While the waiter was nice and polite, this is not a restaurant that I could go back to. I’m very disappointed in the $90 we spent there tonight.

To be honest, I was reading reviews and laughed out loud at the McDonald’s fries conspiracies. Until I tried them. & I am fairly certain they are in fact McDonald’s fries. Does McDonald’s sell their fries wholesale? Maybe that’s what’s happening. On the same front- the burger also was laughably similar. The only difference was in the patties, which seemed kind of like if you took a McDonald’s patty, rolled it up, and remade it into a smaller thicker patty. Same taste, same consistency though. That said- the salt and pepper Taiwan chicken appetizer was absolutely fantastic. The drinks were pretty solid as well. The server was very polite and friendly, although he seemed rather overwhelmed despite only having two tables, and the other table only having drinks. It took a while to take our order and about as long for our drinks to come out. All in all I am not overly inclined to have dinner here again, but I’d likely come back for drinks and an appetizer (as long as I didn’t have anywhere I needed to be at after, since service is rather slow). It seems like a work in progress with potential- maybe we came on an off night?

Just had the loveliest dinner at The Buttonwood. The interior is remarkable - cozy and delightfully thoughtful, decadent without being pretentious. It's a place where you're equally comfortable in shorts or dressing up for date night. The menu is eclectic, and we appreciated the wide range of non-alcoholic beverages. I feel like the non-alcoholic beverages had just as much care put into them as the bar program. This is important to me! The salt and pepper chicken was savory and perfectly sized, and we enjoyed the katsu chicken and short ribs. Save room for dessert - Earl Grey creme brulee was light and flavorful, not too sweet. The servers are attentive but not overbearing. Thanks for an unexpectedly charming night, Max and company!
Dietary restrictions: Lovely and inventive non-alcoholic drink choices. I wish more places put that care into their beverage programs!

I’m a tourist in Baltimore for a week I walked by and saw how beautifully decorated the inside was on a day the place was closed, and couldn’t stop thinking about how nice it must be inside. The next day I visited the area again and they were open! As a fellow business owner, I know a soul-curated environment when I see one. So you know the food has to be delicious. And it was. I had the Pakora as an appetizer along with a generously proportioned drink called the Hanky Panky (definitely not watered down!) and Lavender crème brûlée. My meal was heavenly. My waitress was very attentive and enjoyable to converse with. Whether it’s within my current visit or the next one, I will be back!

Finally, a restaurant that feels like a unique and delightful statement of style and hospitality. When this restaurant first began to fill up with plants and furniture, I remember thinking this may be a really cool business or just another vacant commercial property with plants. Fast forward a few months and this beautiful, bohemian oasis blossomed. Max was a terrific server with a wonderful smile and the bartender and chef also excelled in creating simple and delicious tastes.

Visited on a whim as few options were open on a Monday night; I ended up with an excellent dining experience. The server / bartender provided excellent conversation and light dinner recommendations - salt & pepper chicken and pakora - on top of mixing up a very tasty house cocktail, the zarazu. The atmosphere was really novel, arty but not stuffy, and overall very cool. I will certainly visit again, looking forward to the roll-out of the full menu.

I like the direction that this place is going. The decor is a work in progress, and the sandwich was a little overcooked. Will revisit at a later date.

Perfect in every way. The decor, the welcome, the service, the dishes. And above all, honesty: we chose 2 avocado pesto sandwiches, but just before serving ourselves, the waitress noticed that there was no more avocado: she offered to replace it with chicken. And she OFFERED us both dishes!!
Come in and you won't be disappointed.
