After a going to Baltimore Arena Stage, decided to try.. What a bad tasting experience. First, Crab dip ..gives more of a mustard taste and not the normally crab dip taste with cream cheese. Calamari, my favorite appetizer but not here. I spit out one of the rings just to make sure what I was eating, it tasted like bad batter that stayed in oil grease too long. Next up Steamer for two complete with lots of refrozen food that tasted as such. snow crabs, clearly over seasoned with old bay to add poor taste. potatoes, clams that didn’t open and lots of onions and very dry mussels.. they really over steamed everything. So, it was not a good dinner at all.

We received a lot of personal attention from the chef, and they gave us very large drinks.

The Choptank is a lively seafood and crab house right in historic Fells Point with a classic Maryland vibe and a fun atmosphere. It’s one of those places where local seafood takes center stage — you’ll find steamed hard-shell blue crabs, crab cakes, oysters, mussels, and other Chesapeake Bay favorites on the menu, often paired with cold drinks and live music that keeps the energy up.
What I enjoy about The Choptank is its casual-but-upbeat feel — there’s outdoor patio seating, a good selection of draft beers and cocktails, and it’s easy to make a night of it with friends. Portions are generous and the seafood highlights Maryland’s local flavors. Some dishes like the crab soup, wings, and crab cake options stand out, and the staff tends to be attentive and friendly, especially if you’re hanging out for drinks and dinner.
That said, it can get busy and a bit loud at peak times, and a few visitors do mention that prices are a little on the higher side compared with other spots nearby — but overall it’s a solid choice if you want a quintessential Baltimore seafood experience with lively ambiance.
Overall: A fun, seafood-focused hangout with good local classics and an energetic Fells Point vibe — great for crab lovers and social evenings alike.

I recently went to The Choptank for a birthday celebration and had a really great experience overall. The atmosphere in Fells Point is always fun, and Choptank had a lively vibe that made it feel like a perfect place to celebrate. Live music is always a plus.
Our server Tyler was honestly one of the highlights of the night. He was super friendly, attentive without hovering, and made sure everything went smoothly. He really helped make the birthday feel special and memorable, which we appreciated a lot.
For food, we started with the oysters, which were fresh and really good. We also ordered the wagyu meatball, and those were probably my favorite super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The crab cakes were another standout, lots of crab and not too much filler, just how they should be.
Overall, it was a great night with good food, a fun atmosphere, and excellent service. Big shoutout to Tyler for making the experience even better. Definitely a spot I’d come back to, especially for another special occasion.

Choptank always delivers a great experience. The oysters were amazing, and the spicy mussels were a standout. Kaila was incredibly kind and such a great bartender, she really made our night even better. The happy hour light fare options were perfect for sharing, too!

The food is not over seasoned. It’s perfect. I had the crab soup and crab cakes and loved them. Note, I hate crab. But the Bartender Kaila was very convincing in giving it a shot and I am glad I did. I felt safe and enjoyed my meal in peace. The Chilean sea bass was butter and Mac and cheese was SOOOOOOO CHEESEY! the perfect kind of cheesy!!! Come by, give it a try. You won’t regret it! Staff was incredibly kind!!!

I stopped in for a solo dinner while on a business trip in January. The crab cake was delicious, and the service by Kaila was excellent. Will definitely be back.
