Recently checked out The Dutchess, a new English pub in Hampden, Baltimore, featuring the Chamorro cuisine of the Mariana Islands, including Guam. It’s the latest venture by the Foreman Wolf restaurant group, led by Tony Foreman, located in the former Café Hon space at 1000 W. 36th St.

The menu, created by Chef Kiko Fejarang—who has roots in Guam—includes Chamorro specialties such as red rice, chicken skewers with Chamorro marinade, pork belly skewers, Spam musubi, and tityas (a type of tortilla). The bar offers eight beers on tap, a compact wine selection, and rum-based tropical cocktails. The space is styled as an English pub with a touch of glamour, featuring reclaimed furniture from England and northern Europe. Pure class 👌🏼

I stopped by for brunch, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a cozy, vintage-inspired decor that really adds to the atmosphere. The staff was friendly, polite, and attentive. I typically don't dine out much because I’m often let down by restaurants, but I’m definitely looking forward to my next visit.

The Duchess has absolutely earned a return visit from us. From the start, Tessa greeted us warmly with genuine interest in our day and experience. We were promptly seated at the bar and got prompt service. Alex was an attentive and informed bartender who made recommendations and guidance that aligned with our preferences. The "snack" items we selected from the menu served perfectly as almost a tapas style experience. The chicken, beef, and pork belly were impressively tender and flavorful in marinade. The Lumpia was stupendous and the shrimp keleguen was tender and flavorful. Overall our experience was wonderful and I can't say enough about the hospitality, quality of the food, and impressive ingenuity of the cocktails. A great addition to the Baltimore culinary scene

When I booked our Valentine's dinner a month ago, I wasn’t sure what to expect—an English pub with Chamorro food? Never tried it before, but the menu had lots of vegetarian and non-pork options, plus seafood.

They offer valet, but we found street parking a couple of blocks away—lucky for us considering this was Valentines day on a Friday night in Hampden.

The place had a chill vibe but didn’t scream “pub” to me, especially since it was dinner on Valentine’s. I think the pub side comes more from the bar area, where they show football games. They had a pre-fix Valentine's menu, but since two dishes didn’t work for me from a diet restrictions perspective, we went a la carte.

We got shrimp and corn fritters, the Brussels sprouts, da kine pickles, ginger soy beets, pancit bihon noodles, and rockfish sinigang to share. We liked all of it—but whatever I didn’t like, my boyfriend did, and vice versa. My faves were the roasted beets with tofu cream sauce, Brussels sprouts with miso glaze, and shrimp fritters. My boyfriend loved the pancit noodles and roasted beets. The chocolate namkala dessert was also awesome—light chocolate pot de crème which was perfect to share on Valentine's day.

One thing: I wish they had more non-pork meat options as well as maybe a couple vegetarian mains. Just a thought for the menu.

Our server, Liam, was great, and there was live music, which set the Valentine’s mood. They have live bands on weekends, which is nice for local talent.

Would definitely come back for dinner or brunch. Welcome addition to Hampden!

Most of the food was very good. I was delighted by the broccoli goma-ae and the spam musubi. Avoid the shrimp kelaguen and the tatiyas, which are stogy and unpleasant.

The services was fine, and I suspect in will become excellent as everyone there gets a little more seasoned.

The space is beautiful, but no thought appears to have been to the physical comfort of the diners. The decorater should be forced to sit in that backless stool I was given in lieu of a chair as penance.

I will go back happily, but they really need to fix some of the seats and the tatiyas.

I suspect I'll be revising this review as they improve. I will be back, and you should go.

Man, I really wanted to like this place. As people mentioned already, the menu is fun but portions are way too small for the cost. The portion sizes were seriously laughable and while tasty, not mind blowing tasty to warrant the cost ya know? It's crazy to say, but the staff are way too attentive... Different staff members passed every minute checking on us and grabbing empty plates. They even tried to grab plates we weren't done with. This was super distracting and it kept cutting into conversations.

Overall, we were disappointed with our experience. While very tasty, the mushroom noodle dish had a tablespoon of oil in the bottom of the bowl when finished. The fish was quite good, but the chips were undercooked and greasy. The “BBQ chicken skewers” were just overcooked plain chargrilled chicken. The service was good, although they removed plates as we were finishing them. The space is noisy, and with the tables close together, conversation is difficult.

We went to The Duchess with a group of 6, and all drinks, light fares, entrees, and desserts were excellent. One member of our group has a gluten allergy and our waiter was very attentive to his questions and needs with every round of ordering.

Dietary restrictions: Although the gluten free options are limited, the wait staff did a fantastic job of assisting our friend in finding the gluten free options.

The Duchess offers a truly delightful dining experience. The food was absolutely exquisite, with Crispy Brussels, Crispy Shrimp Corn Patties, Coliflower Squash Tempura, Grilled Beef & Prok Belly Skewers all perfectly cooked. The ambiance was equally impressive, creating a warm and inviting lively and energetic setting that perfectly complemented the meal.
However, while the service was generally attentive and friendly, we did feel slightly rushed throughout our dining experience. My meal was interrupted quite frequently, which unfortunately detracted from the overall enjoyment.

Overall: Despite this minor drawback, The Duchess highly recommended for a memorable and delicious dining experience. I would definitely return and suggest it to others.

Chef Kiko’s menu is delicious and authentic to her island roots! An east coast restaurant that carries finadenne AND dinanche is a rare and I am glad they do. I cannot say enough about the great service from Ben and Kayla at the bar as well! Cannot recommend this place enough, I will be returning as frequently as I can!

Really cool space. Perfect place for a family dinner, going out with friends, or date night. The bar is cozy but busy when we went.
Lots of sharable dishes and all of the food we tried was delicious: brussel sprouts, typhoon fries, spam musubi, and the duck entree. The drinks were very pretty and sweet.
They just opened so some things need to be ironed out, but everyone who worked there went above and beyond to make the night great!
