The food was great, as always. We were disappointed with the service this time, however. Waiter misunderstood our instructions regarding the order of service, so one person got her food way before others, and another person got both plates at once. This was not our usual experience, so we will be back in any case.

Black's Bethesda is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. We booked a late lunch for an important conversation and requested a quiet corner. Hostess had noted our request, and put us well away from the few groups that were talking loudly. By the time we finished, we were the only customers still in the restaurant. Food has been consistently high quality. This time was no exception. My roasted beet salad was exceptional. My guest's seafood was excellent. Like many restaurants, Black's faces the tension between raising prices or cutting portions. They have resolved this in part by stating clearly that they will reduce the meal price by 4% for customers who pay cash. And they make this clear on their web site, the menu, and even the check, noting the lower price for not using plastic.

Food was well prepared. Service slightly unctuous but good. Restaurant has separate charges for credit and cash. Charged credit rate for debit card. This is against Maryland law. The manager refused to change this when politely asked and law pointed out.

I am extremely impressed with the service and the chef at your restaurant! My colleagues and I made quite the journey, driving all the way from West Friendship (area), MD, and Upper Marlboro, MD, just to dine here, and it was absolutely worth it. One particular incident stood out to us. Tomato soup was on the menu, and Ingrid, my colleague, wanted to order a grilled cheese to accompany her soup. She mentioned to our waiter that although grilled cheese was not on the menu, she wondered if the chef could make one. The chef's response was fantastic! They said, "Not only can I make grilled cheese, but I can make the best grilled cheese," and true to their word, they delivered an amazing grilled cheese sandwich. Kudos to your restaurant and your wonderful team! This experience has left such a positive impression that I am certain I will be dining here more often. Thank you for going above and beyond.

We arrived on the earlier side of dinner and service was prompt. Ordered the fried calamari which was perfectly done and a good portion. Burrata with grilled bread was also tasty (always need more bread). I had a beet salad with salmon, and my family had the blackened shrimp and rockfish special. All were very good!

My son and I were graciously welcomed by the hosts at the stand and were given a nice private table in the dining room. Ryan was a great server who anticipated needs. The food was beautifully presented and served.

Our server was not terribly friendly. It's not like he was super busy as the restaurant was pretty empty. I had always driven by but never had eaten there. However, we got a gift certificate to go there and decided to try it. It has a nice atmosphere. The food was delicious. It was served so fast too. I highly recommend it.

Food and service were great. I didn't like the 4% fee they added for using a credit card. Just raise prices if you have to.

We sometimes enjoy having dinner at this restaurant because the food is good, but our recent visit was disappointing. From the start, we had unpleasant service from an unfriendly waiter, and the worst part was when, halfway through our entrees, he rudely and impatiently asked if we wanted anything else because the kitchen would be closing soon. This completely ruined our appetite and was very upsetting. If the kitchen is closing in about three hours, the restaurant should not accept new customers, and those already dining should be allowed to finish their meals without feeling rushed or pressured. This issue needs to be addressed.

I ordered fried oysters, and they came out kinda warm and not crisp. OK. Mistake. I ordered another order. The second one was MUCH better. I asked our server if perhaps the first order had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while, and did not get a satisfactory order. Oh well.

Every dish brought to our table including cocktails were delivered to the wrong person at our table. We tried to correct the staff to no avail. Not what should have happened at this restaurant .

Malcolm was fab! He steered us to an amazing wine and the tastiest food. We usually get seafood but omg the burger and the chicken sandwich were both among the best we’ve ever had. And we’ve had a lot if burgers and chicken sandwiches. Cocktails also, just delicious. 😋
