Read a few good reviews, but they had to be written by family or friends. Ordered the broiled filet of trout. Came with a soup and salad bar. The salad items were practically spoiled. Some lettuce and dressing was all that seemed fresh enough. Soup was a decent lentil variety. The trout was pretty awful. Soaked in lemon and butter. Full of bones and not very fresh tasting. Had the runs for several days afterwards. Service was weird. Tap water had a very chemical and metallic taste. Mentioned the water issue to a resident that was dining at a nearby table. Her response, "yeah, I never drink the water here." Won't be coming back. No idea how or why they are in business. First bad review I've written for a Bethesda restaurant...

I came for Thanksgiving dinner with a singles group. The cafe is in the lower level of an upscale apartment building. Guard at the gate, just tell him you're going to the restaurant and get a parking pass. Fairly small L shaped space with a bar, Italian mural in the larger room and a patio that looks like it would be pleasant in nice weather. Grabbed a pinot grigio for $6 while waiting for the group to gather. The buffet hit all the standard food, turkey, chicken, ham, string beans, salad, decent rolls, properly cooked salmon, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, dressing. No separate gravy. Pumpkin and pecan pie. $15.95 was not unreasonable. Food was all solid but unexceptional, as was the service. OK, no more, no less. I guess with all the restaurants nearby in Bethesda it doesn't have to be better. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

We went into the cafe around lunchtime; there was one bar patron chatting with the sole server. Walking over, I asked about a lunch special, listed outside, did it come with a salad, and he said that could be included, so I sat at a table. I was waiting for him to take my order when the salad arrived, standard issue romaine and iceberg with shredded carrots, a few tomatoes and a cucumber slice. I asked about another entree, but he said, "We're already cooking your dish," which was weird. I went with it, and shortly thereafter a lasagna plate arrived. And surprisingly, it's basically lasagna noodles on top and bottom stuffed with linguine pieces in between. Not much meat, sauce or cheese. We also received day-old Italian bread. The dish was pretty much 90% carb bomb. While the sauce was a bit thin, it was nicely spiced with herb notes and some pepper. The noodles were soft. The other point to note is that this server, who's been there for at least a decade, was phoning it in; he hadn't shaved in a few days, his shirt was not fresh and he looked generally disheveled. Good thing I was the only restaurant patron. The food's been better in the past, particularly when the place is full, but weekdays, early, avoid it. There's a lot better nearby.

Located in the Promenade residential apt complex on Pooks Hill (a short walk from the Bethesda Marriott). Living at the Promenade, I find this a great choice for dinner when I don't feel like either cooking or driving somewhere. I often stop here for dinner after returning from a business trip. Never had lunch here. I usually get the NY Strip Steak or grilled Lamb Kebab dinner. In both cases, the grilled meat was always a good cut of meat (no gristle) cooked just right and flavorful (well-seasoned). A decent salad bar comes with dinner, although I never tried the soup. The salad bar was very fresh but basic. The portions of the meals (entrees and sides) are large, and prices very reasonable (especially for a glass of wine), with entrees and a side and salad bar under $20. Service is prompt and restaurant clean. Food came out in a reasonable period of time. I agree with prior reviews that the decor is outdated, but heard they are getting an update soon. Some al fresco dining on patio in summer, and they have a private dining room. This is basically a good diner (with a Greek and Italian slant) and not a foodie restaurant, but quality is good. They deliver in the building, and take credit cards. Recommended if in the complex or close-by neighborhood. Note: On the arcade level In the complex. Complex entrance is a stop on the RideOn 30 bus route. If you drive, don't let the guard gate deter you, as they will give you a visitors pass to park.
