The most unfriendly and rudest staff I have ever encountered. It’s serious. Seems like it’s a constant at this place. The done greet you. They just stare at you then look away. They take their time to come over and take your order. No smiling, no politeness. They made me feel so unwelcomed it was so awkward and unfortunate.

Over priced drinks, rude bartenders and a so so crowd. Been there a few times and every time I think they have changed the show me they haven’t. Waste of money!!!

Visited Hip Flask Rooftop bar several times to find the bartender staff extremely rude finding that there is a compulsory 20% service charge stacked atop the bar tab making the beverages very expensive. Nice rooftop setting for downtown Bethesda but clearly being forced to pay the 20% service charge doesn't help motivate the rude bar staff to provide standard service. Other reviews posted point to the rude bartenders-Long wait times, being ignored and a hostile attitude opposite of hospitality doesn't seem to justify a mandatory 20% reward on bad service!

We stopped here for a cocktail on a Saturday night after seeing a show at the Bethesda Theater and walking past it in our way back to our hotel. You enter through the Marriott lobby and take an elevator near the front desk up to the rooftop. There were plenty of people here but we were able to get seats at the bar. Our cocktails were very good. We did not eat any food and I didn’t see anybody else’s with any so I can’t speak on that. We chatted with one of the bartenders - he was personable and attentive and very good at making drinks. Prices were a little higher than our usual places but this is on the roof of the Marriott so it was expected. It was dark out when we went so I can’t say what the view is like but I’m sure if there’s blue skies it is beautiful. It was a club atmosphere - upbeat and dance music.
Kid-friendliness: Might not be the best idea to take children to the bar
