Visited Hip Flask Rooftop bar several times to find the bartender staff extremely rude finding that there is a compulsory 20% service charge stacked atop the bar tab making the beverages very expensive. Nice rooftop setting for downtown Bethesda but clearly being forced to pay the 20% service charge doesn't help motivate the rude bar staff to provide standard service. Other reviews posted point to the rude bartenders-Long wait times, being ignored and a hostile attitude opposite of hospitality doesn't seem to justify a mandatory 20% reward on bad service!

We stopped here for a cocktail on a Saturday night after seeing a show at the Bethesda Theater and walking past it in our way back to our hotel. You enter through the Marriott lobby and take an elevator near the front desk up to the rooftop. There were plenty of people here but we were able to get seats at the bar. Our cocktails were very good. We did not eat any food and I didn’t see anybody else’s with any so I can’t speak on that. We chatted with one of the bartenders - he was personable and attentive and very good at making drinks. Prices were a little higher than our usual places but this is on the roof of the Marriott so it was expected. It was dark out when we went so I can’t say what the view is like but I’m sure if there’s blue skies it is beautiful. It was a club atmosphere - upbeat and dance music.
Kid-friendliness: Might not be the best idea to take children to the bar

Mostly tourists staying in the hotel are here. Warmed igloos on the roof go for $1000 table fee with separate waiter.
The ambiance is nice, but I can't get over the dark blue and brown decor. From my understanding it was supposed to be a representation of the nearby Potomac River. But we all know the water there is dark brown 🤷🏻♀️
Despite that, all employees greeted me as I walked in and walked by. I found this impressive and welcoming. Truly unique there!
Drinks were expensive but good with excellent service and the manager.
I did not eat food here so I cannot speak to it. But it is a Marriott, and so I imagine it to be delicious!

Food was amazing, the cook really put their all into that. I’ve come here months ago and the food was alright. I then had the same thing just this last weekend and it tasted 10x better. Nick our server had been our server a couple of times and they always do amazing. Will be going back!
I came all the way from VA to meet people here, so my standards were pretty up there & this place did not disappoint. Very elegant, the rooftop is beautiful, and the staff are ALL very friendly and shockingly efficient since the place got packed at some point. It’s pricey, but not outrageous and while the small plate menu only has a few options, the two I tried (charcuterie and crab dip) were really spectacular.

It’s small plates but delish, the wings and crab dip were great to go along with our ? ?. Perfect date night, girls night, guys night, happy hour, or just catching up with coworkers you haven’t seen in a while. The sunsets ? which I’m a sucker for were amazing! Try the Conquistador, you’ll be glad you did!
Hip flask is a great place to go and meet a friend or a date. The drinks are excellent for casual dining and drinking. The view is beautiful and the sunset is stunning.
