Sadly, our most recent Not Your Average Joe's outing in Bethesda was not very successful. The brunch items were all super greasy, and my mom had to send back her pancakes because they were really gummy and tasted like oil. Usually NYAJ's does better with their food quality so I have to wonder if something was off in the kitchen.
Food was not great- over cooked hamburger, over spiced dishes. Server did not clear all plates- brought the bill before the dessert arrived. Noose level did not allow conversation. Over priced
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Not Your Average Joe's Bethesda. The variety of menu choices and the restaurant's acknowledgment and attention to potential food allergies is appreciated. Our dinners were all delicious, the wait staff was attentive without being intrusive, and although there were large groups of families with young children at tables around us, we appreciated still being able to hear each other and converse without having to shout.
I need to come here more often. Great atmosphere and Shay is such a great server. He recalled me from last time.
Service was great. Food was good but not hot. Portions felt smaller. It was super busy due to Mother's Day.
Management was described as tweeky by the wait staff.. that is not a good indication in the hospitality industry. Staff doesn't feel supported by management which is very sad. I don't think this restaurant is going to make it for long. We were here to celebrate my daughter's birthday, and the waiter stated that he couldn't do a comp for dessert because the manager was tweaky. We will not return in the future. Food was also mediocre; the jambalaya tasted like seafood in tomato sauce. The Korean bbq tender app was the best dish overall.
Not trying to appear miserly, but your famous focaccia and olive oil dip was not offered or served. Do you have to request it explicitly? If so, that's not a good practice.
The food was not as good as usual. We had to ask for the bread and oil. We ordered appetizers and the main course was served before we had a chance to eat them. Overall, not a good experience.
Our sandwiches were very good (chicken caprese & the Italian). Our lunch arrived before the appetizer but manager gave it to us to go & took it off the check. Cosmo cocktail was heavy on the lime but still tasty. The floor on the lower level was very sticky. We'll go back and hope for better timing, etc.
The food was terrible. I ordered the veggie bowl with added salmon protein and the vegetables had absolutely no flavor and the salmon was a flat piece of overcooked cardboard. Literally the sides were curled up. My friend ordered the teriyaki salmon bowl "simply prepared," and it wasn't even a bowl ... just a piece of salmon with too sweet-from-a-bottle teriyaki sauce poured all over it, white bland rice, and huge pieces of steamed broccoli with no flavor. We both remarked when we were leaving it was the worst meal we have had in years. And it was very overpriced on top of the horrible eating experience!

I had a beef poke bowl & my husband had the haddock which he said was good. My bowl was fair - the beef was v chewy & I thought for the price, could have been more tender. The service was v good & the waiter attentive. We were not rushed at all.
My wife and I tried out the Tuesday dinner special for two. We were very pleased. We started with the cheesesteak egg roll appetizer. Very tasty. My wife then had their burger while I had the jambalaya entree. Very well done. We finished with the chocolate chip cookie with ice cream dessert. Very enjoyable. The wine and service were great. we will return.
My experience started off with standing in the front waiting to be seated for a few minutes (the restaurant was almost empty). Eventually I was seated but watched 3 other customers/families come in and have to wait around to be greeted and sat. I’m not sure why you have a hostess station if you’re not going to man it. Maybe they were short on manpower? I got the Chicken Parm and it was average and definitely not worth $24. Not even close. It tasted very “out of the can.” Tasted like something I could’ve got for $10 at Fazolis. Once I got my food, I never had my water refilled and ran out. The servers were nice, just absent. I don’t see myself going back there and I wouldn’t really recommend it to others.

My friend and I had an excellent time at Not Your Average Joe's in Bethesda! We were surprised how full it was so late on a Tuesday night! The food was delicious, and our waiter was very funny. I miss the location in Silver Spring. We will definitely be going back for more chicken piccata!
