This reside is long overdue. My client ordered sushi from here for me one day and I kid you not I eat here almost everyday sometimes. I order from Uber Eats it’s always really quick and I can appreciate that as a busy hair dresser. The food is always consistent. I love the sushi. It’s good quality and not overpriced and the ramen is some of the best ramen in the area. When you make notes they actually pay attention to make sure they prepare it the way you ask. 10/10.

Definitely an underrated spot. Good sushi at decent prices. What people usually don’t realize about this place is that the back room has “in-table grills” like at a Korean barbecue place (but serve much higher quality meats). Probably my most frequented Japanese spot in Bethesda proper.

For the price of the special rolls and nigiri, this place cannot be beat. The staff is also extremely nice. I eat a lot of sushi all around the East coast as it is my favorite food. At Satsuma, I order a wide variety of fresh fish and real grated wasabi. They also offer belly cuts of sake, hamachi, and toro which many other places do not have.

Absolutely amazing for the price ($1 sushi is epic) and all around very good. I wish I had a place this good at something like this price point in Manhattan.Edit 1/29/2022: Still one of the best restaurants in Bethesda. Call ahead, order, eat delicious sushi, be happy

Ahh! The culinary delight that pleases both the eye and the palate. Tucked away on the corner of Delray Ave and Norfolk st. It is my only Japanese place to dine. The service is excellent, the soup and sushi to die for! The pork falls apart with chopsticks. Although it is only carry out the ambiance brings a release of tension as no therapy will. God bless this tiny little part of the Islands of Japan. May their rising sun never set as long as I breathe .

Once in a while, it's nice to find a Japanese restaurant that offers fresh nigiri sushi for $1 per piece. It's only takeaway for now, but they offer it all day long. They are still offering this as of January 2022 for about 20 different selections (see photo of $1 nigiri list), so it's a good variety. But they also have other dishes like sashimi, maki rolls, and other Japanese dishes, most for under $10 a dish.

Great place for the value! If your looking for affordable sushi to fix your craving this is the spot. Mid grade sushi/nigiri that can be ordered in large quantities that won’t break the bank (compared to nearby restaurants). Also have other menu items that are good too; chk karaage, unagi don and kaki fry (we prefer to get our ramen from a different place). Only takeout and the staff is great too!Usual Order:Lg quantity of Salmon Belly NigiriAlaskan RollChk KaraageUnagi Don

The variety of sushi and taste was good. I got the deluxe sushi set and that was quite disappointing. The sushi portions were rather small considering the price (it came in a single takeout container, and I believe 10 pieces of nigiri), and some of the raw fish was definitely not fresh. It might be worth it to just get the $1 nigiri rather than the sets.

As of October 2021 still no dine in!! Are you ever going to welcome dine in? The carry out menu is also very limited, many items are not available.

*As of July 2021* no dine in! And hours are 11:30am to 7:30pm. (Pre pandemic they would close midday) Friends and I came for the $1 nigiri! You mark and number how many nigiri's you want. My friends got from 20-30 pieces. Some pieces of the fish were fresh. Some weren't as fresh. We only noticeably smelled the yellow tail being fishy... which is unfortunate cause many of us love it! The ratio of rice and fish is well balanced! Salmon belly and the tuna belly nigiri was a smooth bitter taste. The best, for me, was the octopus and surf clam. Come by if you want to try out the nigiri's! The employees were kind and helpful when it came to ordering for a large party. Overall the taste makes sense of the price, but I'm willing to spend a few more $$ to have better quantity fish.

I was having a bit of a hard day and figured some good ramen would cheer me up, they were so kind and the spicy miso is absolutely delicious! I didn't have time to take a picture before digging in, will be my go-to now :) I'll try some sushi next time!EDIT: I ended up going back the next day, had time to snag a photo this time

Fantastic for the fresh and delicious $1/piece nigiri, the excellent small plates (salted mackerel, grilled yellowtail jaw, grilled salmon jaw, short ribs and more), the sushi, sashimi and chirashi plates, and anything with eel (try the eel donburi or the eel bibimbap.) The miso soup is delicious.Have seen many Japanese nationals here and have been told that Satsuma is reminiscent of a Japanese countryside restaurant. You can eat very well here for a reasonable price. Open for pick-up during the pandemic.

Satsuma is a neighborhood gem that is often frequented by Japanese nationals. I've been told by Japanese patrons that Satsuma reminds them of country restaurants in Japan. Satsuma has been open for pick-up and public street-side dining during the pandemic. (There are outdoor tables shared by restaurants in the area.) Sushi is invariably fresh, tasty and beautifully prepared. The $1/piece offerings allow diners to indulge their their sushi cravings and fantasies to the fullest. Sashimi and chirashi are also excellent, as are the sushi bar combination plates. The small seafood and meat appetizer plates are well-priced and enticing. One or two with a side of salad (the field greens, the seaweed and the potato salad are all good options) and Japanese pickles can make a meal. My favorite small plates include the salmon jaw, the yellowtail jaw, the salted mackerel and the short ribs. Anything with eel is a great bet here, including the small rice bowl with eel (a terrific bargain that packs tremendous flavor for the price), the eel donburi (delicious and my favorite), the eel bibimbap (yes, Korean, delicious and a close second to the donburi) and the grilled freshwater eel. The Japanese barbecue, which you can cook yourself in the grill room when on-site dining resumes, provides flavorful meat options. The meaty short ribs are my pick from the grill menu, but I'm so enamored of Satsuma's fish items that I don't indulge in it frequently. For the future, on-site dining at Satsuma is best enjoyed when you're not in a rush. The service is relaxed, especially at lunch, and this great little spot is a place that demands lingering.

A nice cozy place situated in Bethesda, you really can't go wrong at Satsuma. I went there tonight with my sister to celebrate a visit, and even though it was 820, the server still seated us with a smile. I got the udon and she got the Miso Ramen. My udon was delicious! The mushrooms were filled with flavor, chicken was perfectly cooked, and the shrimp tempura on top was flaky and not soggy at all. My sisters ramen was also very well done.

I would be very surprised if this place is run by Japanese. Chirashi bowl comes with furikake and the rice is not sushi rice quality. Maki roll completely mediocre. This is definitely a no go place.
