Hemphill's Dock

Ok so I am visiting Delaware from Maryland for a vacation, saw the sign for crabs with a phone number. I called when they were open to inquire about their prices and if they are steamed or live. The person answering the phone was very rude and short on the phone, sounding like he doesn't want to even answer a question. Safe to say I did not proceed with ordering from this place of business and would love to avoid even trying their food in the future.

Great place, nice folks, old school. Nice blue crabs by the dozen and misc sea food. Takes credit cards.

Best local crabs around for the money.

We stumbled upon Hemphill’s Dock in Bishopville after our original seafood stop was closed—and what a happy accident it turned out to be. A quick Google search led us here, and not only was the drive out peaceful and scenic, but the experience itself was even better. The gentleman who helped us was absolutely lovely—kind, helpful, and genuinely warm. We picked up some scallops, and now that I know this place exists, it’ll be my go-to anytime I’m in the area. It feels good to support a local spot that clearly takes pride in what they do. My only regret is not purchasing one of their awesome Hemphill’s Dock coozies along with the scallops. Will being doing so next time. Highly recommend!

Maybe it was an “off” day, but this was not a good experience. We got 2pints of shucked oysters that we didn’t check the sell by date . One was 10 days past the sell date and not fit to eat. The other had one day to go and smells “iffy”. The steamed shrimp were over cooked and tough. The picked crab doesn’t have a sell by date, but isn’t up to blue crab standards. Be attentive to the freshness of what you plan to purchase.

Got a bushel on Saturday. Some of the best crabs I have ever had. Not a bad crab in the bunch!!

We’ve lived in Ocean Pines and stared at this property across the water for years not knowing it was a seafood spot. Super friendly couple who have been there for years and a cool aesthetic. Our family’s new crab spot moving forward!

Went by boat - tip if going by boat: it’s shallow, Howard instructed to hug the right side where the boats are parked or you could probably park at the Salt Grass Point dock and walk.

Howard Mumford has the best Crabs ? and the best prices for our area. Do place an order when you get time.
