I believe that such a popular place should value hospitality and good experiences, especially when foreigners are present.
My friend went through an embarrassing situation there, and I don’t think anyone should have to go through that.
I hope this review encourages the staff/management to change their attitude and behavior, or helps others avoid this place if they don’t want to experience something similar.

I am extremely disappointed with this place. My friend, who is a foreigner, was treated with complete disrespect. The staff showed no professionalism, and instead of making him feel welcome, they made him feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.

No customer should ever be treated differently because of their nationality or background. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and shows a total lack of respect. We expected kindness and basic courtesy, but unfortunately, that was not the case.

I would strongly advise others to reconsider before coming here.

I had a really bad experience here. I walked in holding a pizza box only to quickly meet some friends who were in the back. I was not planning to eat here at all, I was already leaving to eat my pizza elsewhere. The girl at the counter was very kind and welcoming, but the male attendant was unnecessarily rude and disrespectful. His attitude completely ruined the moment. Honestly, I would’ve enjoyed this place if it weren’t for him.

While riding the motorcycle, I happened into this gem of a restaurant. The atmosphere is very chill and the staff super friendly.

I ordered an Old Fashioned (with mezcal), while my friend had an EVO pale ale.

For dinner, I had a House Burger and my friend had a Cubanato. Both were delicious, as evident by the clean plate. (I apologize for forgetting to photograph the meals, but trust me, they were amazing...right down to the fries!)

I will most definitely return. This place is, in a word, awesome.

This was our fourth dinner at The Retriever and we had another wonderful evening. The food is consistently very good, service is efficient and friendly and you can't beat the cocktails. Plus it's reasonably priced. We share incredibly fresh oysters and the smoked bluefish dip for starters. Among the four of us we had the shrimp burger, the pork and noodles and the catfish. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. We will definitely be back to this charming spot.

Always fresh oysters along with a limited menu which is a good thing since they concentrate on fewer offerings. There's something for everyone from salads to sliders to complete meals including seafood choices, chicken sandwich, smashed burger. Nice beverage menu as well that includes cocktails, draught and bottle beer/ale and wine. Very casual and very friendly.

Another awesome meal experience. Buck a Shuck oysters and smash burgers. Yum... New cucumber cold soup was exquisite on a hot summer night.👍

The restaurant has a bar and a dining room. The dining room has lovely upholstered wing chairs and nice tables. The menu is interesting and the food was very good. BUT, the sound system played loud rock music. It made the experience somewhat trying. The restaurant prides itself on its wine list and we found a bottle that one rarely sees at a very fair price.

This is not our first visit and it's always consistently good. I had the sliders and thought the oysters were quite small this time around....but tasty. The staff is always pleasant and attentive.

Always an enjoyable experience. If you're an oyster lover, it should be on your weekly rotation.
