About Northwest Chinese Food

Northwest Chinese Food is a popular local spot known for its flavorful Chinese cuisine. The restaurant offers dishes like spicy cumin lamb skewers, hot pasta dishes, and the well-loved Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, which many customers praise for its rich and bold flavor. The beef noodle soup can be served with traditional knife-cut noodles or rice noodles, and it arrives piping hot, perfect for chilly days. The sesame hot oil dumplings are a standout, perfectly cooked and generously filled, drenched in a savory, nutty, and spicy sauce that hits all the right notes. Customers also enjoy the flavorful, crispy sandwich appetizers, ideal for sharing. The food often contains some heat, and dishes can be made mild upon request for those sensitive to spice. While the restaurant doesn't cater specifically to vegetarians, there are some vegetarian options available, though the menu is mainly focused on noodles and minced meat dishes. The atmosphere is lively, and the service is friendly and attentive, especially given the low cost. The decor features Mao pictures on the wall, which may not appeal to everyone, but the food keeps customers coming back. During busy times, there may be a wait for a table, but the quality and flavor of the dishes make it worth it.

The main reason I made it through college, and I still dream about their vegetable soup. Every time I went, I tried something new, and was never disappointed! I loved their lamb cumin skewers, the vegetable soup, the peanuts... I hope they continue to thrive for many years to come.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time and knew I needed to make the trip ASAP before they close up shop and prepare to move to a new location.

My husband and I split the following:
1. Liangpi: 8.5/10. we loved this cold dish! It’s not a common dish but well executed here. It has a lovely vinegary taste that contrasts well against the rich flavors of the roujiamo. The noodles are homemade!

2. Stewed beef roujiamo and crispy pork roujiamo: 5/10....read full review

College Park would not be the same without Northwest. Ridiculous that they are being displaced by their landlord. UMD students, PLEASE go support them. Great, affordable Chinese food. Absolutely one of the best restaurants in the area.
