About Hot Off The Coals BBQ

Hot Off The Coals BBQ has been a local favorite for years, serving fresh, filling, and delicious food. Their popular items include pit beef, brisket, and pulled pork, with the tiger sauce being a hit among customers. The restaurant is known for its real Carolina-style barbecue, with many customers raving about it being the best they've had. Recent changes, such as increased prices and limited menu options, have left some customers feeling disappointed. However, the Special Smash Burger continues to be a standout item. The atmosphere is rustic with adorable decor, and the restaurant is clean and well-lit, offering convenient parking. Customers appreciate the simple, tasty BBQ with sauces placed on the side, and find it well priced, making it an excellent stop when traveling. The inside is decorated with common BBQ items, and the staff is welcoming and helpful, though some feel that the food and service could be improved for better value.

Recent reviews highlight the quality of the food, with one customer praising the brisket sandwich for being plentiful and very good, especially the meat's flavor and tenderness, despite being served cold. They also enjoyed the boardwalk style fries and appreciated the quick service. Others enjoyed half smoked chicken, baked beans, and potato salad, and their partner recommended the place after having a pulled pork sandwich and fries. However, some customers expressed disappointment, mentioning that the brisket lacked smoke flavor and was very dry, and that brisket and sausage are not options for the pick 2 or 3 meats. Despite these concerns, the fries received praise, and the service was described as excellent overall.

The restaurant offers ample parking with easy access to Rt 50, and the interior features decor related to BBQ. Some found the menu placement behind the counter difficult to read due to the refrigerator, plexiglass, and other items. When ordering, a helpful staff member assisted, but some felt the experience could be smoother. The brisket, while having a smoke ring, was dry and less flavorful than expected, though the sliced ham was warm and tasty, and the sweet potato casserole was very good. The cold slaw was ordinary but acceptable. Overall, Hot Off The Coals BBQ remains a popular spot that might need some adjustments to improve consistency and overall quality.

Stopped in Saturday for a Brisket sandwich. Very, very good! Brisket was plentiful and so good! I loved their boardwalk style fries. The staff were welcoming and fast. The manager was very friendly and made sure everything was good. Will definitely be back soon!

We were so excited to have time to stop on our way to the beach a couple Fridays ago.
Got the special two Rachel’s sandwiches and three fries for over $20. The sandwich’s had less meat then I would give a child on it and the fries were limp like they didn’t finish cooking them.
We usually don’t have time to stop and in the past you were awesome. We got back on 50 and didn’t have time to turn around. Just were so disappointed not sure if we would stop again.

Went there today and got 2 sandwiches one for me and one for my husband. I got the pull pork with the sweet sauce. There was no sauce at all and didn’t taste any sweetness at all. My husband got the rib sandwich no sauce and the meat was so dry. I don’t recommend this place at all.
