Stopped by the Frederick location of Black Hog BBQ and was seriously impressed. The spot is in a great area—surrounded by tons of shopping and super easy to get to. Parking was a breeze with a big lot, and there’s lots of outdoor seating if you want to enjoy your meal outside.

Inside, the restaurant looks fantastic. It’s clean, well-decorated, and has a welcoming vibe. One of my favorite touches? The open kitchen—always great to see the team working their magic.

The menu is just right: plenty of options without being overwhelming. The bar is fully stocked, and the drink menu has tons of variety for any taste.

Now, on to the main event—the food. I had the Arkansas Brisket (burnt ends), sliced brisket, and pulled pork. Every bite delivered. The burnt ends were melt-in-your-mouth tender and flavorful. The sliced brisket had that perfect smoke, a great bark, and tons of flavor. The pulled pork? Just delicious—juicy, well-seasoned, and full of that classic BBQ taste.

I also grabbed a side of mac and cheese—simple and comforting, exactly what you’d hope for alongside great BBQ.

What really stood out to me was the simplicity. No over-the-top sauces or crazy seasonings—just honest, well-smoked meat done right. Hands down, the best BBQ I’ve had in Maryland.

If you’re anywhere near Frederick, this place needs to be on your list. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Dominic was wonderful and provided fantastic service. He has a beautiful blend of friendly, professional service with great timed visits to the table. The meats where fabulous and good portions. The sides where ok but not my favorite. Over all, highly recommend.

The service was great and the atmosphere was good. The prices seem comparable but the food left a little to be desired. The burnt ends had too much sauce on them. The smoked pork was really smoky tasting. None of the sauces had heat and pretty much tasted the same. The greens were very good. The coleslaw was good, not over sauced, could use a little horseradish for my liking.
I don't think I will be going again, I've had better.

Not bad at all for a chain, you can see whoever handles the smoker knows what he's/she's doing.
I got the two meat platter to go. The two briskets - Texas and sauced burnt ends - with tater salad and baked beans. It also comes with a tiny cup of slaw, pickles and onions, and a piece of cornbread. Frankly, everything was good to great. The sauces were really nice, sides definitely above average from most BBQ joints I've tried, cornbread good. My only possible gripe was that the brisket was a little dry, I should have asked for fatty meat. But the smokiness was on point.
And my order was ready lightning fast. I didn't order in advance or anything and got my order in less than 5 minutes. Impressive, and the quality was there too.

For some reason this last visit didn't sit right with 3 out of 6 of us. My personal food was very dry. This is the first time out of 7 yrs that this has happened to us

As my star rating depicts, just ok.. Not great, not bad, service was good but the food was way off par. The pulled pork was decent, again, not bad but not great. The brisket however was the driest I've ever had. I cannot recommend this place or at least this location.. If you're in the area just go to Buffalo Wild Wings. At least the consistency is there.

Service was good. Nice and accommodating. The atmosphere was fine. Nothing special but you aren't in a BBQ place for atmosphere. The brisket was bad. Dry. Bark had no bite to it. Fat cap wasn't trimmed or at least looked like it. The sauces weren't very good either. The burt ends where just cubed meat. Way too much sauce. Couldn't taste the meat. The Mac and cheese was average. I don't like it dry. The brown sugar sweet potatoes were fine. I've been avoiding the place for years. Was in the area just wanting some BBQ. It just reminded me why I avoid it.
