If you come to Frederick and don’t get ice cream here, did it even happen? #treatyoself

Simply amazing food and bar. One of the best roast chicken dishes I've had anywhere. Sad to see it not open this winter. I hope it returns soon.

I really wanted to like this place, but was left disappointed. I love the idea to farm to table when it's done right. The staff was very friendly, which reflects the 2 star review.Even though the staff was very nice, service was not the best. I'm not sure if they were short staffed or something, but my table went for 30 minutes without service. I understand the stresses involved during these times, but a simple table check every 10 minutes would be easy enough.I tried the fried pickles ($6) and the braised short rib sandwich ($17). The pickles were too salty for my taste, which I could not finish. The braised short rib sandwich was disappointing. Upon initially seeing it, it looked large. It turned out that there was not much meat in it at all, mostly ciabatta bread. And the meat I did have was dry, almost like a jerky texture. Unfortunately it was not worth the 17 dollars. It's not a huge deal, but the restaurant was out of fries. Personally that isnt a big issue, but I think it shows a lack of preparedness from the restaurant.Overall, I like the farm to table idea, but in this case it was not prepared in a satisfying manner.

We did not know anything about this new restaurant in downtown Frederick, but decided to give it a chance. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. They have a nice size patio for outdoor dining and a large indoor space with plenty of social distance space. There is a South Mountain Creamery ice cream shop attached to this establishment that provides a mouth watering experience when you walk in the door, it smells delicious. The servers are cheerful and knowledgeable, unfortunately the night we were there they were a little busy and spread a little thin. It took a little while to get our drinks and appetizers ordered. And then it took a little while to receive our drinks. We understand as a new restaurant they are still working out the kinks, so this ^ is just constructive feedback, we would certainly return.Where Hometown Harvest Kitchen shines is the food! Really delicious food made with locally sourced products, presented in an appetizing way, with really generous portion sizes, is worth waiting for!

I wanted to go to Frederick for a birthday outing and remembered that there was limited outdoor seating in the general downtown area of Frederick. I booked Hometown Harvest since I had heard it had ample outdoor seating for COVID safe dining (which it did), and that the food was supposed to be really good considering it is farm to table. I wanted to book ahead of time because I wasn't sure how fast outdoor seating in downtown Frederick would fill up. However, I was severely disappointed with my overall experience. The fries came, I took one bite of the Parmesan Arancini "Fries", which honestly tasted like someone was trying too hard to reinvent the fry, and failed to do so. I waited for my Reuben Stack Burger, took one bite, and something wasn't right with it. I'm not sure which of these dishes did it, but something sent me running to the bathroom. I miserably munched on some regular fries that came as a side with the burger. My mother on the hand ordered the Herb Roasted Half Chicken, which was absolutely delish. It was a huge dish, and she offered me some of hers to make sure I didn't starve. Had the rest of the food been the same quality of the chicken, then I would have been happy. The waiter picked up our plates, my mom informed her that I hadn't like the dishes, and the waiter took them without a word. Normally, a waitstaff person would ask "What did she not like about it?", or "I'm so sorry to hear that. Can I get you something else?". We didn't get even that. Had it not been about to rain we would have argued about having to pay the full amount, given that the food was barely touched and gave me the runs. I would not go back.

Food was awesome. The squash crab cake starter was a must buy. Plus they have flights of ice cream!!! Can't say no to that.

Very impressed. I had the meatloaf which was delicious. I liked their take on it with the spicy sweet glaze. The portions were huge. The ice cream is amazing as well.

The staff was awesome and the food was good. The menu had an interesting range of dishes that were tasty and wholesome. The manager stopped by our table to make sure we were happy with our meal.

My visit to Hometown Harvest Kitchen was completely accidental. I needed to get away from Gaithersburg for the day so I drove to Frederick to check out Carroll Creek Linear Park. After being at the park for a few hours, I needed a snack. Unfortunately, I went to the Rita's for custard without thinking of what that would do to my...ummm...stomach for the 30-minute drive from Frederick back to Gaithersburg. Fortunately, it was a Friday afternoon and Harvest Kitchen was open when I walked back toward my car at about 3:50. Due to COVID, I wasn't thrilled about going inside a restaurant, but I needed access to a restroom for at least an hour. Is that TMI? Nevermind, I know it is. When I stepped inside, I saw the ice cream area and I had to chuckle at my choice to walk past this place to stop at another ice cream spot just to ultimately come back to this place. Although happy hour was about to start, no one was there. The person who greeted me offered me the option to sit outdoors, at a table, or at the bar. Since no one was there, the bar was perfect! While there, I ordered several bottles of water (ice cream makes me thirsty) and I had a How I Met Your Mother Cocktail, which was really good. However, what really stood out to me was the customer service. Since I was the only customer, there were about three super friendly bartenders who kept me engaged in conversation while I was there, which made the time go by fast. One was an assistant manager and I was able to grill him about his Apple Watch before I ended up deciding to buy one a few weeks later. The staff talked to me about the area, traffic, etc., and were very attentive. I saw on the menu that they have a Nashville Chicken Sandwich, and I need to go back to see my new "friends" and to try out the food. From a safety standpoint, I felt safe with the staff. They all were wearing masks. Since it's been a few weeks, it looks like I'm in the clear and can say that staying inside with the crew for an hour was not a bad idea. I can't wait to go back under similar circumstances. I also think it's pretty cool that they have an area that serves ice cream and a separate area that's a restaurant?bar--I guess it's a little something for everyone.

Great food, ice cream and service. Nothing pretentious, but interesting, well prepared and well presented entrees. Excellent beet salad big enough to split as a side. Quiet outdoor seating along the river will be better when their heaters arrive. Casual indoor space is open and fairly large.
