Used to Be Good… Now Just Disappointing

I’ve given Aroma in Frederick, MD three chances — and each visit has been more disappointing than the last.

Visit 1: I requested the masala aloo on the side — they ignored that and put it right in. We also asked for soup to start, but it showed up 20 minutes after the main course had already been served. Timing clearly wasn’t a priority.

Visit 2: We waited 25 minutes for our order. The mutton arrived... but no naan. Eventually, a waiter admitted they mistakenly served our naan to another table. By the time they brought it (another 20 minutes later), the mutton was cold. Cold meat and fresh bread don’t make up for poor coordination.

Visit 3 (the final straw): We once again gave very clear instructions to serve soup first. They didn’t follow it — again. But worse, our dosas came out with small hairs in them. That’s beyond poor service — that’s a hygiene issue.

I haven’t even gone into the taste yet. It’s average at best. I’d give zero stars for service, two stars for food, and negative points for cleanliness. This place was so much better when it operated under the Honest brand. Sadly, it’s gone way downhill since then.

Definitely not going back.

This restaurant has great food and ambience. The staff and service are good too . I
came twice in two days specifically for their delicious Chole Bhature! Pani Puri was also very good and different from other Indian restaurants. They have a variety of options to choose from. This place is only about 1/2 hour away from Harpers Ferry, WV so would recommend it to any tourists looking for some authentic and delicious Indian cuisine! I would love to visit again!

I ordered boneless chicken biryani 2 weeks ago, I liked it. Ordered same item after 2 weeks, I got completely different taste, different look biryani. The taste was terrible and completely horrible. There absolutely no consistency in the food.

I ordered online, to get delivery in Clarksburg, food was excellent, vey well packed and enough quantity wise. It was delivered by Nagesh, he went above and beyond his job, delivered the food right on time and at the place I was comfortable with. He has one the restaurant a regular customer for sure.

Great mix of one place where you have indian groceries & take away food or order in advance.
Best part of it is good parking space !!

Visited Aroma in Frederick with family. The service was excellent—staff were friendly and helpful. Food was a mixed bag: we loved the samosa chaat, and the goat biryani and chicken tandoori were pretty good. Stuffed mirchi was just okay. The chicken biryani was disappointing, and the egg noodles had a strong raw smell—even after a replacement. Overall, great service but food quality was inconsistent.

When we arrived at the restaurant, the atmosphere was moderately busy, but far from overwhelming. We were seated immediately; however, the service that followed was nothing short of disappointing. Despite being a party of three, we were handed only two menus and received no plates, utensils, or even water.

What unfolded next was a disheartening display of neglect. For over 20 minutes—likely longer—we waited for any acknowledgment from the staff. During this time, we watched in disbelief as three other tables, seated after us, were promptly attended to, served water, and had their orders taken within minutes. Multiple servers passed by our table, each one turning a blind eye to us, while staff members behind the counter stood idle, fully within our line of sight.

Frustrated and ignored, we decided to leave. On our way out, we expressed our concerns to the gentleman at the entrance. His reaction—or lack thereof—was baffling. He stood there, seemingly confused, offering neither questions to understand the situation nor an attempt to make things right.

This experience was a stark reminder of how poor service can overshadow everything else, and we won’t be returning.

On March.22.2025 afternoon we ordered Chicken dum biryani. After long time we decided to have biryani instead of some other food.. and same time they offers discounts on appetizers & biryani's as well because of 1st year anniversary.
Seriously chicken dum biryani tastes very good we enjoyed and definitely will visit again.

We followed our noses while we were charging our car. The dining room is a work in progress, but when I said we needed to get back to our car, they served us delicious food - both South and North Indian - quickly. We were back to our car within 48 minutes. The leftovers were delicious, too!

Amazing food and lots of variety for a vegetarian person. The flavors were spot on whether it was a Dosa or Punjabi food or Indo-Chinese as we ordered them all to taste. The service was wonderful and one of the owners was actually present and was looking after the customers personally, which was wonderful. Highly recommended place.

Horrible food nowadays, their green chilli chicken used to be so good, recently when we went, it was horrible... it was not even green in color, when I asked why is it not the same and not even green? The person there said mockingly oh, so green color is missing?!!.. the taste totally is spoiled now.. for goat pulav, they got a layered biriyani with white rice on top and gravy on bottom, when questioned, they said this is pulav... one other day they took 1.5 hours to deliver one dosa order.. punugulu also lost their quality.. one of our friends when they complained saying that the quality is gone, food is not good, they said they'll give discount. We dont want discount, we want good indian food. They changed the chef who was good and now food quality is changed too.

Fantastic Vegetarian Meal at Aroma Indian Restaurant!

I had an incredible dining experience at Aroma Indian Restaurant in Frederick! As a vegetarian, I was delighted with the variety of dishes they offer. We ordered the Paneer 65, Veg Hakka Noodles, Malai Kofta, and Veg Soup, and everything was beyond delicious.

The Paneer 65 was crispy, flavorful, and had the perfect spice kick. The Veg Hakka Noodles were perfectly stir-fried, with fresh vegetables and a delightful Indo-Chinese twist. The Malai Kofta was rich and creamy, with soft, melt-in-your-mouth koftas and a delicious sauce. The Veg Soup was comforting and packed with flavor—just what we needed to start the meal.

The restaurant’s cozy ambiance and attentive service made the experience even better. If you’re looking for excellent vegetarian Indian food in Frederick, Aroma Indian Restaurant is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes!

Highly recommend!

Great dinner experience. My daughter loves the Chole-Bhature at this place and we loved the Veg Hyrderabadi. Great service and ambience too. We have tried the south indian dishes here too and love them also.
