I really dislike writing negative reviews, but I want to share my experience so others know what to expect before ordering.
I recently tried New Deal Cafe and unfortunately the meal was extremely disappointing. Here’s what I ordered:
Jackfruit Tacos: Almost no flavor at all. Very bland and lacked seasoning.
Black Beans and Rice: Also had no flavor. The beans tasted like they came straight out of a can and the rice seemed completely unseasoned.
Honey-Glazed Salmon: There was no noticeable honey flavor, and it was served with plain yellow rice that was also unseasoned.
Mixed Vegetables: Carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower that were very hard and tasted like frozen vegetables that weren’t prepared properly.
I was actually interested in returning to try their breakfast options, but after this dinner experience I won’t be returning.
I hate leaving harsh reviews, but unfortunately the food I received was very disappointing.

Really enjoyed the food here. Lots of vegetarian options. Food prices are good. Most dishes were well seasoned and flavorful. They do have many 3rd party vendors. Did find a hair in my banana pudding but that was from a 3rd party so I will not penalized the restaurant. Will come back but avoid the dessert. Staff is so nice and attentive.

Loved visiting for the live music with Low Rent Quartet!! The band is amazing!! They should be there much more often, not just once a month. Awesome venue! Great atmosphere!

An Old Greenbelt spot. A cafe in the front, and a music space in the back. Decent lunch spot, and the evening entertainment is diverse.

The quality of the food has gotten worse and worse. Go for the atmosphere and music, but keep your expectations low about the food.

Food was surprisingly very good! I had the grilled avocado halves filled with Pico de gallo, sweet corn and sauteed fresh lump crab. You get really nice sized portions and the food was even plated very nicely! Just LOOKING at the food you'd think you were in a more upscale place. Put the environment was a true let down. I could get past the 2nd hand furniture. But the SMELL of the place! It smelled old, stale and dank! The service: well I'll just say, don't look to get service with a smile. You're not going to get the warm and fuzziest here!

I had been here years ago and enjoyed myself so I decided to meet a friend yesterday as it was a good midpoint for the both of us to catch up. We saw a door was open near the parking lot and when we opened it, a lady rudely said “They’re not supposed to be here.” I was taken aback since the door was open and we didn’t see any signs saying anything otherwise. (I had even checked social media to see if any events were going on.)
We quickly moved to the front (knowing there’s not many options to eat in the area) and decided we would still give it a try. Despite being advertised still as plant based, it really isn’t and it’s also confusing to read the random sections in the menu. The person taking the order didn’t offer any real help despite us staring and discussing our confusion with the menu in front of them. The food itself was okay. Service as mentioned wasn’t the worst but it felt less than friendly especially compared to my experience before. I was also told if I wanted to buy an alcoholic beverage I would have to go to the back area despite a private event occurring there so I opted out of that.
