My friends and I stopped by for our monthly coffee meet up (we pick a different coffee joint to go to each month.) The atmosphere is was cute and the space was bigger than I thought it would be. The bookstore offers a wide variety. The seating was well arranged but the biggest disappointment was the food and coffee (lack of options for coffee). I'm sure with time, things will get better but I won't be back.

Update: we have now gone to two kids book readings/crafts events and can't wait to go to more! So much fun!
It is perfect weather now to cozy up to a good book and some warm soup๐ฌ๏ธ ๐๐ฒ๐ and Hagerstown now has a great new stop just for that!
Next Chapter Cafeโ & Book Shop feels magical as soon as you step inside its grand doors and into the whimsically painted foyer. Book, florals, and a sense of magic sprawl across the tall walls and invite you back into either the rooms of books and gifts for all ages and interests or past the spiral staircase to the cafe where warm drinks and yummy food are waiting to be ordered by you. Yes, you ๐ซต
There is plenty of seating from couches to rocking chairs to high top tables where we saw many gathering around talking, working on their laptop, laughing with friends, and of course eating away at pizza, wings, charcuterie, desserts, and their rotating soup of the day. Their menu will expand as time goes on as well. They have just opened, so finishing touches are still being put in place, but it's a great strong start and I can already envision great things going on here. The stage in the main seating area got me super excited for it's possibilities!
My spouse and I enjoyed the tomato basil soup of the day ๐ ๐ฟ and split a pepperoni Pizza ๐while our 2 week old baby rocked asleep to the soft music, as cozy as can be ๐ด we enjoyed the time to unwind and relax here before having to pick up our toddler and return to the chaos that is home ๐
The meal was fantastic and I really enjoyed how fresh the pizza dough tasted. I'm excited to come back and try some of their other soups (tomato is my spouses favorite, so today just happened to be her lucky day lol) and to see what other things get added, for food and books, over time as they continue to renovate the charming building.
Parking was super easy, as there is a roomy parking lot just 3 buildings down (and plenty of street spots if you are comfortable with parallel), $1 hr, but free after 5pm and in weekends. It was honestly my first time ever parking outside of the garages, I've always been too intimidated to try street parking or the lots but decided today was the day to attempt it, and found the parking app to actually be very simple to use, so yay! Opens up a lot more possibilities for me now to go downtown on the cheap! ๐

A delightful, literary place to hang out. Read your favorite authors, even local ones, on a comfy couch in the large back room lounge. Tune in to community events, performances and readings, enjoy their delicious pizza and ever-expanding menu.

This was a cute Cafe and bookstore, but I was disappointed at the book selection. So much space for more books.

Ms Julie was so welcoming and shared the history of the place. I got their Italian wedding soup and in house made bread. Divine!

I saw a little blurb on instagram about this cafe, and soon after found myself driving near Hagerstown. I decided to stop and check it out and Iโm so glad I did! The wonderful woman behind the counter was just as sweet as could be. I canโt drink coffee, and being a new spot, the drink menu is rather brief, but I found a delicious tea Iโve never heard of and was really happy with it. I didnโt eat so I canโt comment on the food. The seating area is huge but somehow also cozy. Lots of comfy chairs and couches, lighting that is t too bright nor too dim, some mellow music playing, beautiful wood floors, natural colors, and on and on. I really loved Next Chapter. I wish I had a coffee shop like this near where I live, but Iโll have to settle for stopping in when Iโm passing Hagerstown. I really hope this new place will be here for years to come!

Great place, cozy space, delicious food, nice people. And books! Go, you will thank yourself.
My friends and I (a group of 6) visited this quaint and cozy place the day after Christmas. The atmosphere is such a vibe. The bookstore offers a wide variety. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. The seating was well arranged, to where you could be with a group of my size and not be on top of another table or group. The pizza was delicious, the crust was perfection. The hugest disappointment though was the coffee. Not so much the taste as we recognize they use Cannon Coffee Beans, which my group is a huge fan ofโฆ but the lack of choices and customization available was a disappointment. Call us coffee snobs if you will, but to not have oat milk as an option and to be told, โour coffee syrups are only for our lattesโ was just new for us. I mean charge me the extra 0.50 to add two pumps of vanilla to my drip coffee, Iโll pay for it and so will many othersโฆ I know because itโs offered almost every where else. I think I could rate this a 5 star if they could up the coffee game! I also ordered a turkey sandwich which was forgotten about originally, and then just ended up being two slices of turkey a whole lot of mayo and onionsโฆ but I think the staff was a little overwhelmed. We were there right at opening and with a larger group and a couple more groups came in right behind us. Also we not sure if we had to ask for mugs, but we were all sold our hot drinks in to-go cups. I would definitely go again, I always support smaller bookstores, and I could see myself working out of there and ordering a pizza, but likely won't order coffee again. And maybe thatโs not their focus, which is totally fair. I just got excited with all the coffee picks on Instagram.

Not the small town hallmarky vibe I was hoping for. Also, they donโt have any food you can eat and read at the same time. All they have is pizza and (bone in) wings and charcuterie. Would be nice if they had something you could eat with a fork.
Stopped in for a bite and beverage. Cafe has a half sandwich/half soup deal, which I paired with one of the awesome teas from their great selection. Bread was made in house! Iโll have to return for the coffee.
Aside from that, the store present a cozy atmosphere to enjoy a book. I sat and read for a while. Other patrons were studying, quietly conversing, or reading. I will be returning in the near future!

Ok, so the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. Felt like one giant living room to hang out and work or read. My only complaint was the espresso machine wasnโt working yet but the drip coffee was quite good. Really looking forward to coming back. Looks like they may even do live music eventually with a nice stage! Very cool. Wish we had one like this close to me.
