The Charles Restaurant & Bar

The overall ambience was great, as our party arrived early for dinner. By the time we finished our meal, the crowd was just arriving. My husband and I shared the Mussels appetizer and a large Caesar salad, both of which were good. We each ordered a crab cake which was seasoned well. However, as long time Maryland seafood connoisseurs, we would have liked to have had a better example of a ‘lump' crab cake. That being said, we would like to dine here again to sample some of the other dishes featured at The Charles.

The Charles is a hidden gem! The food & beverage is wonderful, and the service is great. I have gone on a night that there were not live music and a night that there was and both were great. The jazz band is excellent!

We had an amazing dinner experience. The food was delicious. The ambiance was great. We look forward to coming back.

Food and service were excellent. Decided we both needed a night off from the home cooked meals, and The Charles did not disappoint.

We've dined here a few times, and it's become one of our go-to spots for special occasions. The ambience is intimate and quiet, though the dining room lighting could be a bit better. Our server, Summer, was upbeat, attentive, and truly went above and beyond — she made us feel like regulars and offered great suggestions when we were undecided. The food was very good: hanger steak frites were flavorful, and the rockfish was beautifully crisp with roasted veggies. My dish, the scallops, were perfectly cooked and melt-in-your-mouth good. The accompanying risotto leaned on the firmer side than I personally prefer, as I usually enjoy creamier risottos, but the scallops themselves were excellent. Overall, a memorable evening and a place we'll continue to return to for special occasions.

The food and atmosphere was amazing!!!!! The bartender Charlie made our drinks to perfection! Bay was not even our server, but he took VERY GOOD CARE of our table! I will definitely be back soon!

I hate to do this, but the food is costly not to. I live every thing about The Charles. The food is delish. This go round wasn't the best, but I will just talk about the food. I ordered lamb chops. I love that they give you four. They were not seasoned and all four of them had sooo much fat on them. I had to take a knife and cut the fat off before I could eat them. I had no intentions on sharing them, but since they were not great, I have some away. I had to season them and cut the fat before I could eat any more. Another thing its so loud in there they person that took my order over the phone couldnt even hear and I couldnt hear her. I will definitely go back, but do better.

The Charles is a Southern MD GEM!!!!! The place down here where you can get quality food without driving up to DC or VA. I love how unassuming it is and they DO NOT MISS with the food. We were here a few times and enjoyed it. Left to live in Europe for a few years and returning home it is still popping!Flavor, presentation, and portions are ALL legit. I’d add photos but my damn plate is empty.

We had lunch. Neither of us ate a substantial part of our meal. I had the worst version of cream of crab soup— more leafy vegetables (no dressing)at the bottom with very little crab meat.There was less than a cup of cool soup. The citrus salad was mediocre with no discernible dressing. My meal was so disappointing that I don’t ever plan to eat there again.

Stopped in to see the jazz band tonight. Vibes were immaculate. These bartenders know what they're doing. I'll be back!

Everything was delicious would have gave a 4 or 5 if it wasn't for my crab cake ... it was pose to be a jumbo lump it definitely wasnt...but that cream of crab soup OMG is the best I ever had... warning it comes with fish eggs but you can get it without

Stopped in on a Saturday around noon. There was a Corvette club in the restaurant so they were busy. Got seated right away. I got the veggie omelet. Didn't come with toast. Odd. A nice multi grain bread would have been nice. Wife got the eggs Benedict. Sauce was a little too lemony for her taste. Overall, service was a little slow. Took a bit for the food to come out to our table. Overall it is ok.
